It was so obvious. I feel bad for him. I actually didn’t understand why that part of the movie was included. It actually didn’t help the story along.
i`m sorry - But Tom could have flattened that guy - Tom was built (yummy), while the "rapiest" was a scrawny little thing, and Tom, threwo ut the movie is kinda known to have a temper - gee..I`m gotta let this hich rape me?!. Common...thats basically the only part I didn`t like about the movie! Other then that - it was really good.

Since we don't know what was going through Tom's mind or what followed subsequent to his initial attempt at refusing the man's forced advances, it seems that only conjecture can be made.
But, consider what we do know:
afterward, he showed the large resultant bruise on his side, to his friend, and that it was presented with some poignancy - a reaching out for some empathy;
that given the internalized anger, battered emotions, abandonment, and sense of inferiority or victimization carried by many adult children of alcoholics, and
also that given the forced advance (initially, at least an assault) took place at a locale which was to be a safe sanctuary within which people could deal with their pain and overcome addiction...
I think a strong case could be made that there would have been quite a nettle-some complexity involved in that situation, amounting to much more than simply some sort of sexual avarice on Tom's part (if that were part of the equation)…
…the kind of thing one cannot work through to find healing and resolution, without a helpful and healthful support system.
I guess rape was too strong of a word. Maybe he was assaulted. But from the look on his face and the bruise I concluded that he didn't like what happened.
sharei don't think tom was raped either. i think he was viciously assaulted and almost raped. i believe tom apprehended him and got away. i would love to have seen the guy who tried to rape him afterwards, he probably looks worse than tom.
