Hamfistedly obvious

Anyone else think that this movie didn't need to be made? It's like an adolescent trying to shock you with revelations that they've just discovered. About as subtle, shocking, and interesting as a brick.

reply

I agree completely. It WAS as subtle, shocking and interesting as 'Brick', which was also a brilliant film.

Anyway ... care to elaborate?

reply

nope
i thought it was great
it needed to be slightly longer though

you got about 1 f uckin second to live buddy- Frank Booth,Blue Velvet

I also thought it was very good.

Todd Solondz is the master of capturing uncomfortable moments and portraying really offbeat people... in real, uncomfortable situations.

reply

Honestly, what movies do need to be made? Movies aren't a necessity. That aside, I was entertained by it as much as I was by Solondz' other films. Hilarious stuff.

Why does any movie have to be made?

I'm glad Solondz is on this earth to make these kinds of black comedies. They're different, edgy, interesting and so true to life.

I'd much rather this movie be made, and more like it, than any fast and furious sequel they've got on the way. Or Brick, for that matter.

You obviously do not understand Solondz. He often involves 'taboos' to point out the absurd belief in taboos. What are societal taboos are just as real as what people have regarded as the norm. Solondz is far from gratuitous as he doesn't just leave the film to shock. He acknowledges what's shocking and tries to get the audience to defeat their own shock. I find Solondz to be quite humanistic.
