I don't get the connection

In "Fiction", after Vi has seen the semi pornographic photos of her peers in the teacher's bathroom, she looks in the mirror and repeats "Don't be racist". My question: What is the connection between looking at the photos and then recriminating herself for being racist? Surely she should be thinking "this guy is going to use me, time to make my excuses and leave!"

My partner has a theory, but I wanted to get your input on this.

Well put filmfanatix, while watching the film I cited that duality before it had occurred. She was in a situation where she would be racist for accusing the man of being a "mandingo stereotype" or she could be open minded "and subsequently ravaged". When she read her poem I though, "Didn't you decide to stay?" hmmm the tangled webs we weave.

She did decide to stay, but there is a fine line when it comes to consensual sex (which is the only way we can refer to sex anyway). I don't think she had any chance of stopping or altering the sex once they started, which is disastrous. As far as I see it, it was a rape.
