We are supposed to hate Peter. But what he did had nothing to do with his sexuality, is was simple jealousy of the relationship between Alan and Tommy.

Had this movies been more true to the times it portrayed we'd have seen some very nasty heterosexuals like bashers, Reagan, and ordinary people along the lines of the airline employee.

To me, Peter was one of several unexplainable things. On one hand, he told Alan to be honest with Tommy. Then he stabbed Alan in the back by anonymously reporting who wrote the book. But people are often unexplainable, so in that regard, the movie is TOTALLY like real life!
