Monumental disappointment

It isn't often that someone decides to commit an Issac Asimov story to film. I had never heard of this one so was very happy to find it in the bargain bin. Got it home and checked the box. Released in 2000 how bad could it be.

The cinematography was OK I guess. The sets and costumes were obviously cheap. The production budget must not have been very good to begin with; all the money went to the (so so) sets and the (cheap) costumes. The film stock, actor pay, and director pay must have been low or non-existent.

The acting was OK considering the budget. I've never heard of either actor or actress before and felt they did a passable job, though they weren't all that believable. It is, after all, a "B" movie.

I was completely and utterly shocked that they took almost all of the thought provoking ideas out. For some reason, someone decided to try to make an action film out of it with a lot of emphasis on the action. Sad, sad, sad.

Yes, it managed to have an less than happy ending which is unusual for these sorts of films, but except for brief nods to the ideas in the book (and short story) the film was mainly about heroics (misplaced at that) and a lot of (not very good) action. They needed a weapon's master and choreography, so even the action, which dominated the film, wasn't all that good.

I gave it a two. The lowest rating I've ever given any film on IMDB.

Watta ya lookn here for?
