A Tramp by any other Name...

...would still be called 'Tramp' by Jim. How does he know 'Tramp's' name? Is that what the pound called him or did so many people call him 'a tramp', that that's all he responded to?

In a read-a-long, I had as a kid. There was the rat scene:

Darling: 'Oh! A Rat!'
Jim Dear: 'That means Tramp is actually innocent but, now he's being taken to the pound, to be destroyed.'

I say just roll with it, if you question holes like this your head will explode.

The stamp of mediocrity!

Tramp's name came from what he was called. Everyone called him tramp and therefore... his name is Tramp. The same thing happened with Lady. Yes Darling said her name was lady but they referred to her as a little Lady during the whole movie.

Looking back, there's really even more proof of that. The same is true for the humans in the story. Jim refers to his wife as Darling and she refers to him as Jim Dear. For the rest of the story that's their 'name'. It's a little different since they're human, but it's the same concept.

It must've been something similar to how the humans "guess" ANGEL's name.
