Embezzlement?

I can understand that idiots can make a (beyond many people's belief) crappy movie, but I can not understand that $45 million (heard higher figures as well) can lead to this kind of awful animation. Did anyone go to jail over this? Charlie Sheen is expensive, so I guess 90% of the cash could've gone to him, but still... Surely some producer pocketed most of the money? Even with the awful script and line readings, a team of nerds in their basement could've done better animation charging $50/hour. It's... inconceivable.

It was $65 million and the process was flawed from the start.

Director Lawrence Kasanoff had never worked on a cartoon like this before and treated it like regular filming asking for retakes and spontaneity and giving direction like. "make it more awesome".

Then partway through the hard drives were stolen meaning they had to go back and do the whole thing over again and this was the result.

So whether you believe him or not, it was due to cost overruns, costly retakes and stolen data.
