Go into the car in the first place?

Also who keeps their doors unlocked, and the lights in the car would typically go on once a door is opened. Just saying

He was upset about hearing the news of his mother's pregnancy. He wanted to hitch a ride to his dad's house, so he hid in Rick's truck since he heard Rick was headed into town.
