Why was....

Mrs.Wilkinson upset with Billy at the end of the film, when he went to tell her getting in?

Thanks!

It's been a long time since I've seen the movie, so I'm going to try to remember. I don't think she was really upset with him... wasn't it more like she wanted him to go out, live his life, do his dancing, etc...
It was sorta the typical "teacher/student" type of thing where the teacher has to "let go" so the student can soar.

I think it was a combination of things, the fact that he didn't tell her till the day he was leaving and she had found out about his acceptance to the RBS via her daughter probably contributed to her coolness. That and like the above poster says, she doesn't want him to be stuck in Durham in his head. She wants him to walk out of there and never look back and become all he can be.
