Internet killed the films message?

I am aware the internet was around in 2000 but the way we consume media in the last 11 years has changed a lot and I'm thinking because of this most of the shock value of the film has been lost.

Because of the way a lot of people now stream content the lines between online video content (new media) and old media simply but online has become blurred. Age restrictions and censorship have become a joke and anyone who has used the internet enough (i.e has used 4chan or the like quite a bit) has seen a lot of disturbing material and probably quite a lot of different and experimental porn.

So I imagine when this was released it was like a bit of a crossover, sort of a film film that was basically porn but trying to be something more. It was a film with the kind of content that should make it go with the videos hidden under the bed but could actually be slotted in with the other films in the film cabinet.

So for anyone finding it now (like me), it's pretty tame compared to the rest of the internet and it doesn't have this stand out effect because the internet has just put all this content into a massive web. It's now in a library with the seediest material out there, material that isn't edgy because it has simulated sex and violence but because it has real sex and violence.

Anyone else feel like this?
