He gets arrested at the end, but looks like they let him off for the sequel, I think he is in prison, but everytime there is a series of killing again they let him out to sort it. :p

yeah, although the books ending makes a little more sense, I've read the book and seen this mini-series. They end the same, but the movie it leaves you asking, why, Red could easily beat the rap, hell the charges should have been dropped.

It's like that stripey bag is mocking me... *beep* you stripey bag.

In the book, Red is arrested for murdering the killer. Red basically ends up going insane in the novel and is sent to prison for crucifying the murderer (you can't just crucify serial killers and get away with it).

This was toned down quite a bit for the show. Instead of Red crucifying him, the killer simply falls to his death during a struggle - basically an accident. The show then ends with Red handing himself in, not for murdering the killer at the conclusion of the show, but for the original hit-and-run incident when he ran the killer when he was a child, all seen in flashbacks.

Obviously Red doesn't go to prison, because they made sequels. But realistically, even if he managed to avoid a prison sentence for the hit-and-run, there's no way Red would still be a police officer afterwards. But the sequels were decent so I'll let the writers off!
