Digital or Cinema

how was werckmeister shot......Cinema or HD????? i realy need to know because such long takes are nearly impossible using film......

it is 100% film. I have a feeling that it will be a long time off before Béla switches to digital.
and it's not much harder than shooting on an HD camera, you just can't go past 10 minutes.

you know, I don't believe that post on YouTube that claims it's digital.

It was shot by Robby Müller, (whom has only shot a few things in the last few years, many of them on digital) so there is the possibility of it being digital... but I could see it either way. If I saw it projected I could for sure tell, but on YouTube it's damn near impossible.

The above is correct. It was shot on film, as was tarr's new film.
I assume the short beign referred to is Prologue (I haven't clicked the link) but as far as I know, it was shot on film.
And yes, doing long shots on film is not really any more difficult, just more expensive. Hence why Tarr and his crew rehearse each shot over and over prior to filming to get everything down pact. I know most reels can only last for 10 minutes, although I believe you can or at least used to be able get larger ones (Tarr's Macbeth is made up of only 2 shots at something like 50 minutes i think. I may be wrong, i'll have to check again). Tarr has said in the past that he prefers the look of the Kodak stock which he's been using since the 80s, but that its downside was it only comes as long as 10 minutes. Digital simply makes shooting long takes more convienient and fiscally responsible.

Macbeth was shot on for television on video, as to how it could have one hour long take.
I believe you can sometimes find 20 minute magazines for 35mm, but this is just two 10 minute reels that play back to back, and require splicing together after development.

It's good to hear he uses Kodak (I'm using B&W Kodak stock on my next film), but I wonder what color stock he used for Almanac of Fall (probably Russian stock, or something).

It seems Bela won't ever be switching to digital now he has officially stopped being a film maker ;(
