All star version or classic version?

I have to admit the graphics are much nicer on the snes version. The only thing I wish was that they kept the creatures the kings turned into the same and didn't change the name of the worlds.

Otherwise I love the snes version, it is still classic!

The original NES versions had some better sound effects e.g. The 1-up the coin collection and the power up sounds were excellent. For All Stars they got lazy and just ripped the effects from Super Mario World...

I like the Allstar games because they put more detailing in the levels. You can
see different hills and moutains in the background. But I didn't really like the
coloring for Mario 2 too bright and tacky compared to the original NES, also I liked the old cavern music from Mario 2 used in the NES version.

I prefer the SNES version of Mario 3 to the original.

Overall I would take the Allstar version just because it is usually guaranteed
to work on the first try. I hate spending 20 to 30 minutes preparing the old
system with cleaning the cartridges.

While the all-star SNES version had better graphics, I prefer the 8-bit NES version.

what were the differences between the two? I only ever played the all star versions, so it'd be interesting to know

Then your not missing much. Their is less detailing on the classic versions and not as big a variety of colors. The coloring is a little more bland. Other than an improvement in graphics they have the same levels and features.

I like the original version better. The save option on the all stars game made it too easy.

wat was the save option for the original?

reply

The save option was only for the Mario All Stars version, not the original. You could save your game at the beginning of every world. In the classic version, you would have to start from level 1 every time you played.

Or you could just pause the game and shut off your tv, and continue at a later date, but that gets the tv and the adaptor pretty hot.

I love Super Mario All-Stars! That was a good idea, and the Lost Levels is also pretty interesting.

About a year or two ago, I finally got SMB 2 and 3 for my Nintendo, I had the original since '93. I also have the SMB/Duck Hunt cart, bought it just for the hell of it.

But I'd probably take the Allstar version over the originals, but nothing really beats them though.

This reminds me of Original Star Wars movies vs. Special Editions.

I prefer the classic version over the all star version.

The music wasn't replaced with Super Mario World's. It was all basically the same SMB3 music, remixed and adapted for the SNES hardware.

I can't beleive no one mentioned the fact that the All Star's version gives you the oportunity to play the mario bros side game on its own. I still to this day have tournements of that off the SMAS version.

I prefer the classic...

One thing that bothered me is the cave levels in the All-Stars versions...they were different (not physically, but the colors) and I hated that...

But I do like the save function of All-Stars...but still like the classic.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I still love the All-Stars version, especially because my NES has trouble starting sometimes...but I'm just a more retro person lol. Still, a few graphic changes aren't going to make me hate the game lol, so I pretty much agree with you there.

Everything is better in All-Stars except they removed the 4 rows of power wings after beating SMB3.
