Wasn't there a fourth? NEED HELP

I understand that there are many Mario games out there.. Either the ones only available in Japan and the ones we all know about. I also know Mario has had cameos in endless games.. But bear with me on this..

I remember playing a game at my cousin's place when I was young.. Early nineties I would say. I think it was pirated copied (or you know the ones you had to attach the two bricks together and stuff it in the console), which probably means it was only available in Japan.

You played as MARIO. In 2D. There were well thought out levels and a very entertaining game.. Just like the others.. I can barely remember that something was off with the colors. It was all red-like or something. And I think you could transform into things at certain points.. Anyway, (I'm just pointing out things I vaguely remember) At the end of each level, there was a bunch of barrels or something, that were protected by a little monster or something..

Please help me find out what game this is!!

I would be forever grateful =)

go to www.classicgaming.com/tmk and look under ''the games'' section under nes games you might find it

Not that I have it, but it sounds like a game for the ill-faited Virtual Boy that had a screen that was all red and black in colour.

Google "Virtual Boy" or look here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Boy

I have a Virtual Boy system, which was pretty lame to be honest. You had to basically put your head right up to a little screen (that had shades on the side to eliminate light). It was kind of hard to play. I looked through my games and I didn't find any Super Mario games, so I'm not sure if it was made for this console or not.

Maybe you're just mistaken? I dunno.

Are you speaking of Donky Kong? Yes, the game you're describing sounds like Donkey Kong, an early 80s game for Nintendo, or maybe even Atari. Mario was in that game too, but I believe Donkey Kong was the primary feature. Go to www.gamefaqs.com and look it up and read the synopsis under the various reviews in the Reviews section.

I'm not a control freak, I just like things my way

The Super Mario Bros. 4 is Super Mario World. The part when I read "And I think you could transform into things at certain points" made me think about the game Yoshi Island. Then I read the barrels part "protected by a little monster". The game could be Donkey Kong (Game Boy) that may have been played through Super Game Boy cartridge for the Super Nintendo. Of course I am certainly wrong.

I really doubt a pirated Mario game from the early 90 was well thought out and very entertaining. All the pirates I've played were horrible either because of the controls or because they were non-Mario games with Mario sprites sloppily edited in.
