Reference to The Twilight Zone?

Exactly how does this games reference to Rod Serling's classic TV-show? It says so in the Movie connections-section of the show, but doesn't really define how. Anyone know about this?

Don't expect it to tango; it has a broken back.

My theories lean toward Tanooki Mario/Luigi turning in to stone('The After Hours'), the brothers swimming even farther below the ground by going through a pipe at the bottom of water('The Bewitchin' Pool'), the Koopalings wanting to control everything in the Mushroom Kingdom('It's A Good Life'), the airships('Nightmare At 20,000 Feet'), and the warp zone('A Hundred Yards Over The Rim').
