Ok, this is a project I've been working on for near enough a year and a half now. It's basically a remake of the very first Metal Gear game, released on the MSX-2 computer.
Originally, it was designed in DarkBASIC, but that idea went down the drain. Now, I am working on it as a sort of mod for Unreal Tournament 2004.
Although I have tried to copy the areas as faithfully as possible, I have made some adjustments to some of the areas, just so that it suits the new engine.
All models used are placeholders, until we can find someone who can model extremely well, or finish off the models ourselves.
Wow, that is pretty rad! That looks fun, how much effort did you put in to make that? Did it take a long time? I love how it ends with the codec beep!
I have some good news if you don't already know. "Metal Gear" and "Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake", are being re-leased in America with fully translated English. They are both going to be extras in the new "Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence" which is basically a MGS3.8(that's what Kojima calls it).
Subsistence will be released in the fall. More extras include Online Multiplayer, more "Snake vs. Monkey" levels, a Demo Theatre so you can watch any of the cutscenes whenever you want, more camoflage/facepaint, and much much more my friend.
Look it up, believe me, the re-release of those two MSX2games is the reason why I want to get Subsistence! My source is Issue 99 of PSM Magazine(it has a 16 page feature that covers MGS3:Subsistence, Metal Gear AC!D 2, and MGS4 for the PS3)
lol, I've spent about a year and a half on the on the project, on and off. It's been quite hard work.
Yeah, I knew about the re-releases of the orignal games, and my only query about them is if they are actually direct ports or just ports from the phone versions. I'm definitely getting Subsistence, even though the only bonus thing I'll be getting are the original games and the online, since I already have the PAL version that has everything else.
It's not so much dead, as "postponed until I can find the time to concentrate on it". In truth, I can actually release an alpha of the entire first building in Metal Gear for people to run around in... There just wont be any guards, and the guards that are there, will just walk around in a pre-determined path.
As much as I'd lie to spend more time on it, I've got a lot of other things that require my immediate attention, not least my film, "FOXHOUND".
So it's not dead until I say it is dead... It's just sleeping...
I haven't played the game in years, but in the beginning of Metal Gear, aren't you inserted into the jungle? I thought I remember it being Metal Gear Solid where you start out underwater.
No that is the unofficial NES version. You don't even SEE Metal Gear in the NES version. From what I've created, no part of the NES version has had any influence (well, maybe one piece of music).
In the Official MSX version, you came up through the sewer system and over a fence.
