Okay time to review one of the less popular Wrestlemanias. This time we are going to take a look at Wrestlemania 2. This show took place from three locations. New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. 3 different locations is the main reason people think this one sucked. We have 12 matches here with 4 from each location. Let's go to the review. First stop New York.

Match 1: Paul Orndorf Vs Don Murraco: Orndorf is getting close to his heel turn against Hogan at this point. Not a whole lot going on in this one. It's a short match that ends in a double countout at the 4:26 mark. 1 star.

Match 2: IC Championship Match, Randy Savage Vs George Steele: Steele is in love with Elizabeth and Savage takes advantage of the easily distracted Steele througout the match. Savage does alot of running around the ring. Steele does alot of biting. Savage brings a bouquet of flowers from the crowd to smack Steele with. Steele grabs them and rubs them right in Savage's face. At one point Savage hit's the flying elbow but Steele kicks out pretty easy. Steele goes nuts and bites open a turnbuckle and stuffs the crushed styrfoam in Macho's face. Savage scoops the legs and uses the turnbuckles for leverage to get the win and retain the title at 6:59. 1 1/2 stars.

Match 3: Jake Roberts Vs George Wells: Welles takes an early advantage and knocks Jake all over the place for two minutes. Jake wants a time out but Welle's ain't havin it. Welle's catches Jake with a flying headscissors and Jake's in Trouble. Welle's get's poked in the eyes and Jake slides to the outside. Welle's chases him around and back in only to catch a kneelift in the ropes. Jake quickly recovers and get the DDT and the win at the 3:05 mark. Jake put's Damion on Welle's and George starts spittin and slobberin all over. Too short not enough action really. 1 star

Match 4: Main Event Boxing Match, Rowdy Roddy Piper Vs Mr T. Not a wrestling match but I will just toss in a quick review. Alot of punches thrown by each man and it's back and forth until Mr T knocks Piper outside the ring. 1:15 into the fourth round Piper get's desperate and bodyslams Mr T. T wins by DQ at the 11: 19 mark. I don't care for boxing in wrestling ppv's but this was probably the best one of the lot 1 1/2 star.

Onto Chicago.

Match 5: Womens Title Match, Fabulous Moolah Vs Velvet Mcintyre. Moolah opens up the attack and Velvet switches the momentum. A couple of dropkicks put's Moolah down. Velvet goes to the second rope and misses a splash. Moolah dives on top and gets the pin in 55 seconds. Moolah is still the champ and we have this year's dud match.

Match 6: Flag Match, Nikolai Volkoff Vs Corporal Kirshner. Kirshner get's busted open but changes the momentum when he intercepts Freddie Blassie's cane as he tried to throw it to Volkoff and knocks him over the head for the pin in 1:35. Short match. 1/2 star.

Match 7: 20 Man Battle Royale. Now this should help make up for the two previous matches. Bill Fralic and John Studd get into an arguement before the match. Crowd goes nuts when they introduce the Refrigerator. Typical battle royale. Nothing really exciting until we come down to the last 6 men. William Perry does a charge that knocks both Hart Foundation members over the top rope but both stay in. He charges and knocks Studd into the corner but Studd catches him with an elbow on the second charge and tosses him out to the boo's of everybody. Perry suckers and pull's Studd out to the cheers of everybody. Last three men, Andre and the Hart Foundation. Anvil sends Hart in who get's a big boot from Andre that looked just as bad as that kick from Goldberg that ended his career. Andre kicks The Anvil who spazes and falls over the top rope. Bret climbs the top rope only to have Andre grab him and dump him onto the Anvil outside. Your winner Andre The Giant at 9:10. The Best match so far. 2 1/2 stars.

Match 8: Tag Team Title Match, Dreamteam Vs British Bulldogs. The Bulldogs beat the Dreamteam in a non title match on SNME, then later lost a title match to the Dreamteam at the following SNME in a fluke ending. Bulldogs control early doing there stuff. Press slam by Davyboy on Brutu's make's the Beefer bounce 2 feet off the mat. Looks like they are wrestling on a trampoline. Davyboy tries a fishermans suplex on Beefcake but Beefer kicks out. Dreamteam takes control when Davyboy goes shoulder first into the turnbuckle post. Brutus picks Davyboy up in an atomic drop position but instead drops him straight down on his arm. Ouch. Valentine comes in and decides not to make a pinfall. Comes back to haunt him when Davy sends him head first into Dynamite's head, The Kid fall down outside like a sack of bricks. Davyboy covers for the three count in 11:55. Brutus tries to make the save when he get's tangled in the ropes, should be noted that you can clearly see a ring attendant grab beefcakes leg and trip him up in the ropes. New Tag Champs The British Bulldogs. 3 stars.

Onto Los Angeles.

Match 9: Ricky Steamboat Vs Hercules. Hercules controls early but Steamboat fights back. Steamboat scores the pin in Wrestlemania 1 fashion with the flying bodypress for the three count at 7:24. Not bad I give it 2 stars.

Match 10: Adrian Adonis Vs Uncle Elmer. Nothing special here. Adonis get's knocked all over the place until Elmer misses something and Adonis comes off the top rope with a forearm drop for the pin at 3:03 short boring. 1/2 star.

Match 11: The Funk Brothers Vs Tito Santana and The Junkyard Dog. Good tag match. Jimmy Hart gets in plenty of kicks on Tito outside the ring. The end comes when JYD is got Jimmy and Terry Funk bounces the megaphone off of JYD's head for the pin at 11:39. 2 1/2 stars.

Match 12: Steel Cage Match for the world title, Hulk Hogan Vs King Kong Bundy. Bundy injured Hogan at the previous SNME so Hogan is wrestling with bad ribs. Bundy tears off the bandages early and goes to work on them. Hogan comes back and Bundy is busted open. Bundy hit's the avalanche but Hogan hulks up and sends Bundy to the turnbuckle and catches him in a turning powerslam. Hogan escapes the cage to retain the title at 10:23. Second best match of the night 2 1/2 stars.

Overall I give the event 4.8 stars out of 10 stars. Wrestlemania get's a little more momentum but not quite close enough for an awesome event. Most matches were too short.

Best Match: Tag Title match, Dreamteam Vs Bulldogs. Liked it slightly better than the Cage Match.

Worst Match: Womens Title match, Moolah Vs Mcintyre. This year's squash match.

Tomorrow we go to Wrestlemania 3 that really catapultes the Wrestlemania series.

Current Standings:

Wrestlemania 2: 4.8 stars
Wrestlemania 1: 4.1 stars

Weird concept for this one! Wonder why they had it from 3 different cities. I mean, the people who were in one city missed out on the other matches, unless there was a big screen there.... weird.

This one I really don't like that much either. Things didn't really get going until WM 3. But the matches on this one are much much better, but still quite a few duds.

On the 3 stadium idea: On the one hand, it cheats the live crowd who only get to see 1/3 of the card each, hopefully ticket prices were downgraded to reflect that. I suspect Vince was largely catering to the home audience who would see one seamless broadcast. The problem with that is the home audience cannot really tell one arena from the other. If they had shot promos on location or somehow incorporated the cities in question the gimmick might have had a purpose. But what's the difference between New York and L.A. if all you see of either is an identically dressed wrestling ring inside a darkened arena? If they hadn't told us we were looking at 3 different cities, we wouldn't have even known. So it seems to me like a gimmick that while sounding kind of impressive, really didn't serve any purpose and became a logistical hindrance. The largest noticeable effect, as stated, was splitting the announce team and requiring three celebrity guest commentators who didn't add anything to the proceedings. Now, if they'd had Elvira run into the women's match and get stripped to her underwear, I might have been more interested ...

Personally I also find the card kind of weak. I can see selling Hogan vs. the monster Bundy as a big event, or the celebrity appeal of Piper vs. T. But I can't see why Uncle Elmer deserves even 2 minutes on a Wrestlemania card, or Moolah, God bless her, lumbering around at 50+ years old squashing poor Velvet seems rather unbelievable even at under 1 minute. These days you get matches that are 10 times better which are relegated to the pre-PPV Heat episode.

I love how you didn't rank the Women's title match. Dud match of the year? Dud match of the century!!
