Why no Taker or Austin?

I saw this event for the first time recently, via the anthology DVD set. Aside from the triangle ladder match, I thought it was a pretty lackluster Mania. A lot of that, I thought, could be attributed to the abscences of Steve Austin and the Undertaker. Why were they not at this event?

My mind knows not the state of tiredness

If i remember correctly (Please don't bash me if I'm wrong, it was almost six years ago.)

'Taker and Austin both had injuries, well at least I Think.

Lackluster Mania? Personally, I thought it was really good WrestleMania (I cannot be the only person who felt this way?). If you want to see lackluster, watch previous year (Austin-Rock, Shane-Waltman is only thing that saved WrestleMania XV from being WM IX, 2.0). Also, watch some of the events from the early years, where they booked way too many damn matches on the card...and therefore, good amount of the matches were obviously rushed and felt forgettable...

Anyhow, to answer the question:

Steve Austin was out with neck injury, in sense of shoot (real) and work (script). However, the reasoning for the neck injury was different, in regards to shoot and work. In sense of work, he was hit by car at Survivor Series 1999, thanks to the likes Rikishi (wrestlecrap worthy material). In sense shoot, it was wear and tear from years of neck problems.

The Undertaker was indefinitely suppended, by order of Vince McMahon, in the sense of work. However, I do not remember what the story was, in sense of shoot. Imagine it was some kind of injury, howevever, this is nothing more than guess on my part... Hmm... *checks obsessedwithwrestling.com* According to obsessedwithwrestling.com (thank you OWW), he was out action due to groin injury...

Taker was seriously missed at the start of 2000, or he was by his own fans at least. The same goes for Austin, and these two could have added so much more to what was a disappointing wrestlemania.

I agree he was missed in this PPV but I think it was better they kept him out of it in a way, it made Backlash much more interesting.

every film has a begining, middle and an end, but not always in that order

Undertaker was considering retirement at this point in his carear and Stone Cold was out because of spine surggery which he had been putting off for about two years.

Those are 2 of the biggest superstars of this time. This could be a plot hole
