Doesn't seem like Gunnar Hansen appreciates LEATHERFACE

He doesn't seem to appreciate his LEATHERFACE background. He even said in the interview that

I don't wanna be remembered for Leatherface. I don't want to have 'Leatherface' written on my tombstone

If it weren't for Leatherface. He'd be nothing. He had his chance to appear in parts 2-3-4, and a cameo in the remake, but apparently he wanted more money.

You said it.

Bummer! I and many fans would have appreciated to witness him playing in the sequels. On the other hand, considering the sequels and the remake, it was a wise decision not to play Leatherface anymore. (Which does not mean there is no sequel i like/love ;) )
But that doesn't change anything about him beeing a quite difficile person.. I refer on the audio comments on the Collecter's Edition, where he confesses his "hate" concerning Paul Partain (R.I.P) aka Franklin; othersides there are netpages showing him fuming cigar with Paul, as if they where best friends.. hard to tell what is true.
Concluding i think every massacre casted an appropriate Leatherface; very different styles; but hey, swingin the saw allows diversity to rule.

Gunnar has said that he really never intended to be an actor. Trust me, I'm sure he appreciates the success of the film and I KNOW he appreciates his fans. But what Hansen has always wanted to be, first and foremost, is a writer. He took the role in Chainsaw not because he wanted to create an infamous horror villain but because it was a decent summer job and he has said this. Another big thing is that for several years after he went off to be a writer he did not realize the effect that Saw has truly had on people. He tells a story of watching Cheers one night and the episode involved Kirstie Alleys character going out to an old country home. She hears a loud noise and she says "Oh, Leatherface I hope it's not you." Before this, Hansen had never truly realized that "Leatherface" was now part of the lexicon. He just thought it was a successful drive-in flick. Ever since he has been very good about going to conventions and I hear that he's a gentleman with fans. In fact, this is something I have noticed about ALL the actors and actresses in the film (except maybe for Terry the girl who played Pam). They seem just as delighted to meet you as you are to meet them. They really really didn't have a clue that Chainsaw was going to blow up that big!

On a sidenote, I would like to get a hand on some of his poetry. Who would have known that Leatherface was really such a big lug with a sensitive heart. : )

"I've seen things in this city that make Dante's Inferno read like Winnie The Pooh."

Probably better than falling out of the Spotlight, or off the Radar for that matter.

I remember hearing about that on THE SHOCKING TRUTH, I think it was. He could never sell anything though. He tried quitting, even turning down the role of Papa Jupiter in the original The Hills Have Eyes.

I'm just now watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre: A Family Portrait, so I don't know if he said this, but I'm assuming he probably got a lot of undeserved crap from people because of the first movie. Maybe he was just using money as an excuse. Especially if he knew they couldn't pay him the kind of money he was asking for.

I found it odd when he said it isn't the most important thing he's done personally or professionally. Personally, sure, family and whatnot. But professionally? I guess he appreciates his writing more than the movie?
