I finally got to see this a few days ago...

...and I loved it.

OK, so not the greatest post in history, but I wanted to say that. I loved it.

The one thing that bothered me was that it was shelved because of 9-11. The whole PC sensetivity crew that was trying to get Die Hard and other movies pulled off of video store shelves after the event was shutting down any movie that even related to airplane crashes. But if you saw the film you would see that the theme was to show just how blood thirsty the media is until it comes to them.

I would have the monster going out Beauty and the Beast style. She tells him that she loves him and he fades away from that.

COuld have used some Sarah nudity too.

But I liked it too.

This was shelved because of 9/11? I find that bitterly ironic, because this film has a lot to say about living in a post-9/11 world. Or maybe that's why it was considered so threatening.

I happened upon this movie 2-3 years ago on IFC and really, really liked it. I mostly gravitate away from cookie cutter formula stuff, and this certainly was not that. I am glad that I decided to tape it at the time, I just watched it again earlier this week.

Sarah Polley gives such a great subtle performance, and we gradually learn that the monster is just tired of being different and tired of not being able to check out. Just an awesome performance by Mr. Burke. A Julie Christie sighting is never bad, and Helen Mirren is a hoot as the boss.
