Helen Mirren Smoking!

I've only watched 15 minutes of it so far, and I've just paused it on my DVD player at the moment!

I just had to come on IMDb and ask what the point is of Helen Mirren with a cigarette in her hand/mouth at every given opportunity! It's so off-putting, and IMHO absolutely unnecessary.

Well having just finished watching an enjoyable film, I'm still baffled with the smoking! I can only conclude that the director has some sort of smoking fetish!

In the TV show "BURN NOTICE" Sharon Gless (or her character) has the same problem exactly. But for her it's probably true also in real life.

Get over yourself, smoke commie.

I thought your comment was going to be that Helen Mirren is hot ("smoking").

I was on the same train of thought

Two things:

Have you ever watched 50's movies....9 times out of 10 the editor smokes. Whether it be magazine, newspaper, etc.

Secone, did you notice that she smokes inside. Did you notice that no one else smoked. Do you know how irritating that can be (i am a smoker). I think they may have also wanted to show that she cares not a fig about anyone else.

Just watched The Narrow Margin last night. In the commentary William Friedkin comments on smoking in film noir. Also all the men wearing hats etc. Even in chase scenes the guys hats stay on.

the hats...classic. even in high speed car chases when they lean out of the window.
