English Dialogue in this Movie
I have just rented this movie and am still watching it. I am impressed by the openness with which the movie makers are trying to spread a message of tolerance while frankly exploring how bad things are done by 'good' people. One thing I have noticed throughout the movie is the frequent use of English both in intimate dialogue and in crowd control when the police are trying to assert authority. In the latter case I had assumed that English was a kind of lingua franca for the whole country which has dozens of local languages, but in intimate conversation is English still used?
In other words, does the movie present truthfully that English words and phrases have common usage in India, or is this a technique of the movie?
I have never been to India but am very interested in Indian culture and customs.
