The song 'You're My Sonia' didn't make sense

I don't understand why the female singer of the song "You're my Sonia" decides to say "You're my Sonia" instead of saying "I am your Sonia." The male singer was asking her to tell him that she is his Sonia. In the movie, Kareena Kapoor's name is not even Sonia. The song didn't make sense at all.

Bit late to the thread, but whatever. 'Soniya' in Hindi is just an endearment, similar to 'darling'. It's not supposed to be her name.

even if the word "soniya" means "darling" in hindi, the female singer should have replied "I am your soniya". this song doesn't make sense at all.
