First half WAY better than second half...

After hearing so many good things about this film, I watched it today. Overall, I enjoyed the movie. The first half before the Intermission I LOVED and thought it was absolutely amazing, but slowly I started to get annoyed with the film once the second half was in session. I liked it overall, but honestly I couldn't stand Pooja in the second half! I don't know if it was just me, but I thought it was annoying that Rohan ended up with her since she was such a pretentious snob. He deserved so much better and was such a good guy when she was full of herself and prissy...he should've fallen in love with a different girl--or better yet, they shouldn't have made her character so annoying as an adult. I couldn't buy their "love story." I loved the actors that played them as kids, and I did like the adult Rohan, but Pooja just got on my nerves. That really spoiled the second half for me, but as I said, overall I enjoyed it. I'd watch it again, but I'd watch the first half then skip over a majority of the second half...

Yeah, I felt the same way.

First half was pretty amazing for me. The family conflict at the start was well executed and Hrithik Roshan stole the show as Rohan for me. He was convincing as a charming, charismatic, joyful character, who had huge affection for his whole family. He also played his part well as a 'lover boy' during his interactions with Pooja. Almost all of the stars acted well except 1 or 2 characters, who overacted in few scenes. Shahrukh and Kajol were also highlight as one would expect from this couple. Amitabh and Jaya were also great in their limited screen time. Some people, especially westerners, may have felt some scenes too melodramatic. Karan Johar is famous for it.

The major problem with the 2nd half was pacing, and the fact it was too lengthy and felt little dragged out didn't help it, either. I think the reason why a good character like Rohan ended up with a self centered Pooja was latter's transformation, from being mean and self centered in 1st half to a more mature and caring person in 2nd. They were already building up their relationship from 1st half. Which wasn't done right and felt forced in my opinion. I myself couldn't buy her transformation. Kareena wasn't at her peak of acting prowess during that time and the script also had few inconsistencies, so that could be the reasons behind it. I would have preferred them to go on separate ways, but they usually include love stories in their movies in Bollywood.

You don't seem to be an Indian, is Bollywood popular in your area? Just curious to know.
