This film is just another talky indie....

"Women in Film" will go down as a picture that is just an "up-close and personal" view of Hollywood life from the perspectives of three ladies (an aspiring actress who's a masseuse, a casting agent, and a producer). I was more intrigued by Beverly D'Angelo's character, who talks about incest when she recalls how her father abused her as a young girl. The Portia deRossi character is, really, an extension of her gay persona in her descriptions of sexual encounters with female clients with whom she works. Furthermore, her sexual side shows in some of her antics, including a couple of private moments. And the Marianne Jean-Baptiste persona is one who endures the hardship of raising a child who is blind.

But, this is a movie that becomes overly talkative and gimmicky when trying to bring out the point of the film. Nothing significant comes of this independent production. If anything, rent the video.

I rented the DVD and liked it but the You'll Never Eat Me character...they left something out of her story.

I bought this DVD for 50 cents when a Hollywood Video closed a few years ago, and I expected more. I don't mind talky indies, but most of the dialogue was needlessly pretentious and exploitive. I found the Beverly D'Angelo incest thread very moving, especially toward the end, but Portia de Rossi's role just annoyed me and Marianne Jean-Baptiste's character seemed underdeveloped. 3/10 stars from me.
