Who would play Static Shock in a live action movie?

If they ever consider making a live action movie out of this.

reply

As sad as Hollywood is, that Nick Cannon guy would probably get picked in a heartbeat just because he's somewhat popular. I can't think of any young black actor though that looks like, and could play static really well. I think it would be best to do it the old fashion way and just audition random unknowns to find the perfect actor to play static.

My choice would be Omarion from the group B2K and the movie YOU GOT SERVED. Isn't that him in those Nestle's Crunch commercials with Shaquille O'Neal?

s to the left of me.
s to the right.
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you!

reply

Percy from UPN's Veronica Mars is one form Nestle Crunch.
The overall fan choice for Static was Michael B. Jordan from All My Children. Sadly we will never see it as racism and pure stupidity has ended the series.
According to teh show's creator, the WB wanted another season however the animation company was losing money with each season. They needed a toy company to make toys to help offset the money loss. EVERY toy company in the USA refused claiming nobody wants to play wiht a black superhero. You ask Dewayne McDuffie himself at his official website.

reply

Yeah! That guy would be perfect, I totally forgot about him. He was like in the back of my head, if they casted anyone it definitely should be him.

Man that is some total bs with those racist toy companies, if the show is popular enough to have the great ratings it gets it's obvious the kids don't care about race. All they see is Static, not some black guy, in this day and age even if he was more ethnic kids wouldn't care. I can't believe how little things have changed in the last 50 years.

if anybody can play Static in a live action movie, it would have to Lee Thompson Young from the Famous Jett Jackson. Everyone in hollywood should expect to see alot from this talented actor in the years to come and if a Static Shock movie comes into the fray then push aside Nick Cannon and give Lee a chance to show his skills as an actor.

reply

Ahh, that's another good suggestion, I totally forgot about him.

Dee Jay Daniels from Sky High would be good. He was very funny and also seems to have a good sense of humor. In the behind the scenes feature on the DVD in the begining he is running around putting clothespins on the back of peoples shirts.

reply

This is actually very funny because when I was a kid, I wrote a small script for a Static Shock movie and Lee Thompson Young was my first choice for Static. Also, Shia LaBeouf would play Richie.

(even if he did mis-spell Dwayne’s name…)

http://forums.delphiforums.com/Milestone/messages?msg=1153.1 — a thread beginning with the latest ratings showing that Static Shock was still the #2 highest-rated animated children’s show on American TV, and the #1 such show made in America. It then goes on to explain why the lack of toys and other merchandise means No More Static Shock.

http://forums.delphiforums.com/Milestone/messages?msg=1166.1 — Even DC Comics, the company that published the original Static comics that were produced by Dwayne McDuffie’s company Milestone Media (thus the name of this DelphiForum), and whose animated characters have crossed over into Static Shock multiple times, refused to do a DC Direct toy of Our Hero, or anyone from the show. But guess who they DID think was worthy of a DC Direct toy!? C'mon! Guess!

http://forums.delphiforums.com/Milestone/messages?msg=1034.1 — a thread on the one set of toys that the show did finally get — way too little, way too late, and way too temporary (Kids’ Meal giveaways at Subway, for one month only [May 2004, with the fourth and final series already in the can], available only at “participating” Subways — the Subway near me didn’t carry them, despite me living in a city of over half a million people, with a Black Majority!!).

http://forums.delphiforums.com/Milestone/messages?msg=1119.1 — well, at least there will be a couple of Scholastic children’s books this fall. Again, way too little, way too late.

I'm all for a Static movie. But I'm sorry, in this day and age, I'm sure a movie about Static would turn into some 90 minute crappy rap video. I love Dwayne McDuffie, and I'm one of Milestone's biggest fans... But, the whole image of Static would be torn down.

Although whoever suggested Lee Thompson Young is a genius. I agree with that, especially over Omarion and Nick Cannon.

And we should all sign a petition to bar John Singleton from ever getting a license to this movie.

I'm going to do a Static movie someday...

Little bow wow, or whatever that dudes name is from Like Mike

that corbin bleu guy could do it, he has the hair

reply

I say that guy from the Jett Jackson Movie who is a disney surfer.

reply

As long as they dont make it like a disney movie. Something like that "Up, Up, and Away" movie from long ago. If anyone, they need to pick a person who doesn't have so much muscle tone and isn't that big as static was bullied before gaining the powers. Also, it would depend whether or not it was based on the comic or the show. in other words no dreds or dreds. This will also lead to the rating of the movie; would it be rated for everyone or for a older audience.

Another Thing.....No Nick Cannon and No Bow Wow and No Omarion

reply

Isn't Bow Wow 20 years old or something? Hardly the right age to playing a teenager. He doesn't even look like a teenager now.

As a fan of this show, which I've already stated before, I must say I didn't know there were that many who felt the same way I did about this. I'm glad to know that someone other than me feels that this is a serious injustice to the creator and the company that helped to create such a story. Dwayne McDuffie was done TOTALLY dirty when this show was cancelled, and everytime I'm on YouTube or Daily Motion watching the classics of this series it just BURNS me up even more. I just got off the DC Comics website and Static is still not in the list of DC superheroes. Steel was on the list, but not Static, and Steel is a brotha as well.Someone needs to find a way to get these e-mails to Mr.McDuffie someway. He needs to know that he does have fans that appreciate his work, the Milestone masterpiece that is...STATIC SHOCK!!!! I am constantly thinking about people to play the characters for the live action movie and will post them when I get some ideas. Please reply.

What about Romeo?

Virgil is just "Static." The show is Static Shock. Please, try to remember this.

Sorry, no casting suggestions come to mind.

yeah i agree nick cannon all the way

Wesley Jonathon would be a good fit, you know the guy from the TV Show "What I like about you" and the movie "Rollbounce". More likely probably the small kid from "Rollbounce", Khleo Thomas. Another good possible actor is Brandon T. Jackson. Colombus Short from Stomp the Yard, if they do it soon enough, would make a good Static as well. And if the want the movie to bomb they could get Evan Ross...but I wouldn't recommend it. And if anyone is to direct the movie, it has to be Jerry Brochheimer hands down.

reply

wtf cares who Directs it? It's all about who's writing it. The story would have to be a whole lot more epic than the show. Also had to be big budget with lots of cool effects. Unlike the new DBZ live movie that looks like crap, bound to fail.

reply

I'm Playing Virgil/Static.

hmm one of the guys from B2K
