Now I've only played Soul Reaver I and Defiance, but I totally agree with you.

my damned pc doesn't have T'n'L capabilities, so i haven't played defiance, but i've completed both blood omens and both soul reavers many times.
They pretty much are films, they have better story and direction than most films at the moment, camera angles, scenery, script, cast, all are amazing.
the only problem i can think is that the main protagonist (raziel) would have to be CGI.

would be awesome though.

Raziel wouldn't necessarily need to be completely CGI, he could be slightly redesigned and work fine, the only difficulty is his stomach, and between a bit of leniency on that specific part of the design, a thin actor and some prosthetics, it'd work out ok in live action.

I agree that the legacy of kain series would make a great set of movies. however it'd have to be done RIGHT. Meaning that they'll have to stay to the script there is (the games) and not get all original and completely destroy something. Doom comes to mind here, every single game in the doom series had a better script then what they coocked up for that damn movie.

either way, one problem might be getting a big enough budget for all the special effects/animation. So in order to to the legacy of kain they might have to do it like the final fantasy movie.

bottom line, thumbs up for a legacy of kain movie aslong as
1: Amy's a big part of it
2: they stick to the script
3: they get a big enough budget to do the game justice.

For the most part, I'd agree with you about keeping the plot as close as possible to the games. However, I'd love to see them do a massive overhaul when it came around to the Blood Omen 2 section of the story. That game, apart from having a couple of familiar characters in it, just didn't fit the series at all, largely because it was handed off to a completely different design team and Amy had little or nothing to do with the writing/directing of it. I'm actually amazed that she managed to tie Blood Omen 2 into Defiance as well as she did and make it work without bringing a lot of the cheesy parts with it. If she rewrote Blood Omen 2 in a way that fit better with the rest of the series, I'd be all for it.

As it is, Blood Omen 2 has little more than the ever impressive voice acting going for it. The storyline just feels too much like an extraordinarily bad episode of the Outer Limits crammed smack in the middle of an otherwise glorious vampire epic. I almost wouldn't mind if they left it out entirely, and that's certainly possible.

Personally, I'd also rather see a series of CG films (like full length versions of the GlyphX Soul Reaver intro movies) than something done live-action with a lot of potentially iffy special effects - especially if Raziel would have to be CG throughout most of his movies. *cringe*

Heck, it'd be a nice change to see a mature CG movie amid all the hokey, repetative Disneyish crap nowdays, anyway.

Ok, I'm done now. Bye bye.

Out of all of them Blood Omen two is my least favorite, but I still enjoyed it alot. What most people don't realise is that Blood Omen 2 came about from the events of Soul Reaver 2. Remeber what Kain said, "Raziel, Janos Auldron must NOT be raised." either that or, "Raziel, Janos Auldron must STAY dead!" anyway the reason was that the Hylden could then posses Janos and use him to escape from their prison, sound familiar? anyways, I think a film would only be a let down because it couldn't do the film justice. We atleast know that they couldn't get Mr. Tony Jay to reprise his role (may he rest in peace) so i am against a film version

If anything, I feel an appropriate novelization of the games should be in order. The whole story reads just as well as a book, so why not make a couple novels of these games? The Blood Omen series narrated by Kain, Soul Reaver series narrated by Raziel, and a little of each in Defiance. And, who knows, perhaps make a whole new series around Nosgoth. It's a thought. I'd much settle for a bunch of novels than some bad movies anyway.

PS: It's a rumor, probably and hopefully false, but Uwe Boll has supposedly got the rights to make a film. So we don't have much time to find someone who can write a better novel.

Movies based on video games have a dismal track record, and movies that rely heavily on expository dialog fare badly as well.

The LOK story is a gigantic mess, full of long explanations, severe retconning, and plot holes. And when time travel is introduced into any story (especially causality loops) the story stops making sense when it is thought about for more than five milliseconds.

For a video game, it is acceptable, since gameplay is first and story is second; but for a movie, no.
