This Is Actually A Comedy..

Obviously. With a weird vibe, like Repo Man or something. Quite funny, and totally over the top.

exactly!
They all spoke funny, with Broadway Theatre "have to almost shout so everyone at the back can hear me" and too strong New York accents :)
Green hair, the dog, German day care woman, punch in the face a t the diner. All very funny.

One thing it missed was Bruce Campbell, he would of made it a strong B movie. Without him it was failed A movie attempt.

i just saw this film and I loved it. I really loved Dick Maas' Silent Witness, too, and this is the only other movie here on dvd. the direction is kinda like a DePalma movie, its a lot of fun...

I thought the same when I caught the movie by mistake on some unpopular channel a few years ago. Actually, I thought it had a unique vibe to it (and also Naomi Watts, tehe), so I dunno why people are bitching about it. It's like the director and the cast members knew that the premise of the movie is ridiculous. However, not over-the-top explicitly, it was always on the verge of being self-ridiculing or something else (well, in any case not scary...). I really liked it.

Agreed. It's about a killer elevator run by the brains of evil killer dolphins or some such nonsense, there's no way it's played straight. It's not super cheesy, but just enough to clue you in to the fact that it's supposed to be fun.

I mean with the plot listed above, a director named Dick Maas, and a $15,000,000 listed budget (yeah, sure), you know you have comedy gold already...
