its pretty lame that you guys are seeing this movie just for an actor that doesn't even have that much face time in it. this movie is supposed to be capturing a poets struggling life; its not a gawk session for a bunch of vapid teenage girls that think some actor is "hot".

on the other hand, if loads of people see it just to see johnny, he could be atracting alot of enlightened people lol johnny has basically always been attracted to very good material of any sort,and people, and there is always the very likely chance that someone who just walks in for johnny depp, walks out with a new admiration for something really deserving of it.
plus, some people really are interested in how profesional and impressive johnny depp is in a drug smuggling transvestite role and a cernal-with, what i think, good reason. exploring another role of your actor shouldnt be a crime, unless your refuring to those ones who think hes hot and really...dont have anything more for the basis of their "admiration", cos that is stripping the integruity off it.
yeah thats true. but i think many people see him just as a sex symbol rather than valuing him for the talented actor he is. its not a crime, it just shouldnt be so degrading to him.

i like movie that include johnny depp cause he can usually pic out the good ones! i am just in awe that one man can go from "fear and loathing in las vagas" to "blow" or "pirates of the carribean" or even "charlie and the chocolate factory". the main reason why people (me) like him is beacuse i admire his skill... the hottness is a bonus. and if the hottness was tha main reason then i wouldnt have made fear and loathing in las vagas my fav movie (cause heck hes bald in that one)
I being a huge Johnny fan myself, saw this movie for the purpose of being in it. Just because you watch to begin with because he's in it doesn't mean you won't like the story and the movie as a whole. I happened to love the movie, and thought Javier Bardem was great in it.
i also agree with looli talmor. I think its a shame that people watch Depp because he's so hot, instead of having respect for his talent. Johnny has the remarkable gift to morph from character to character, and he just HAPPENS to be hot and sexy. Most actors that hot would use their looks to get the blockbuster money making films, but not Depp. I have admiration for his talent; thats why i see movies because he's in it. You can watch a movie cuz JD is in it for many reasons, not solely cuz hes hot.
Isn't Johnny just amazing? I have seen so many movies read so many books listened to so much music I never would have if I wasn't interested in Johnny.
He has expanded my horizens twofold. Yes, Schnabel was really smart to have put Johnny in this movie. And by the way I will watch any movie I want for any blipping reason I want.

some of us teenage girls (ok I'm 19, but I've been a younger teenage in recent years :P) actually do appreciate Johnny Depp for his acting. God I hate the judgements teenage girls get for liking actors. I love a lot of actors, but people always assume it's because I fancy them, well actually, as a person I can appreciate talent. Not all of us go lusting after say Orlando Bloom because he is "fit" but in reality a terrible actor.
Really you should give us more credit.
I did just watch this movie cuz Johnny Depp was in it but not because I just think he is hot. He is my all time favorite actor. He is very talented and I love the diverse rolls that he plays. I also like that he has no fear and takes rolls that have a risk to him. Its not fair to judge everyone just because they decided to watch it because of Johnny.
sharei think that having a star name like johnny depp attracts attention to a wider audience of people who will appreciate the film, like those who watched Live8 for the music some really got into the make poverty history thing. i think its a good thing, especially when actors save films from getting lost

sharelet me say first that yes, at first i wanted to see this movie for johnny depp, but when i first heard of 'before night falls' i was thirteen, and a definite fangirl. but as i *was* only thirteen, the sexual content of the film was what made my parents say i couldn't see it. so i settled for reading the novel, and i realized that bon-bon wasn't even a character, and i realized i didn't really care. when i finally saw 'before night falls' this last may (i'm sixteen, now) i loved it for what it was, and for what reinaldo made it what it was.
and, just so you're aware, johnny makes a *fantastic* drag queen. rawr.

shareBecause I've rated Johnny Depp's other films highly on Amazon.co.uk they recommended Before Night Falls to me. Which is ridiculous. Liking Pirates of the Caribbean hardly means you're going to like Before Night Falls.
Fortunately, I'm not a blockbuster junkie so I thought BNF was a great film, but I'm sure lots of people would be disappointed if they watched all of BNF just for Depp's 5-minute appearance.
Although we shouldn't feel too bad for the "vapid teenage girls" because there are lots of other "hot" actors in this film.
lauramania is totally right but nothing is going to change the mindset of the shallow moviegoers. If you don't believe me just have a look at the Human Nature messageboard, where 90% of the posts are about some teen actress who makes a 2-minute appearance. Hilary Duff I think her name is.

People should see a movie for any reason they want to. At least they're seeing it. Besides; I'm sure I've seen one or two movies because Johnny's in it - although not this one - and I'm not a "vapid teenage girl"; rather a 23yr old heterosexual male who happens to be a big fan of the guy and his work. Some people should really stop being such "elitist movie-snobs"...
