Ending *SPOILER*

SPOILER*************

What's up with the ending? Does his friend or Reinaldo use the bag to kill him/self? Reinaldo committed suicide in 1990, but he did so through the use of pills and alcohol. Was this just a dramatic ending for the director or is there controversay as to how he died? He did take some pills and alcohol prior to that scene, but not enough to OD.

indicating that Raynaldo would use the pills and alcohol to build up the nerve to use the bag was pure dramatics. He did O.D. on pills and alcohol and there is no cloud surrounding his death.

I agree it was probably dramatics, but I want to be clear about what (I think) happened.

- Reinaldo was dying (ostensibly of AIDS.)

- Reinaldo made his friend promise that he wouldn't "wake up in the hospital."

- Reinaldo took the pills and booze to anesthetize himself, presumeably to the point of unconsciousness or death.

- His friend, perhaps impulsively, suffocated him with the bag, as a way of giving Reinaldo what he wished for (death) and of keeping the promise (not to attempt to save his life.)

i dont think its that big of a deal if he in fact didnt use the bag... i think laz was pretty sure he was on the verge of death, but just wanted to seal the deal and keep his promise that nothing would keep him from dying right then

The ending was done that way for dramatic effect, as others have indicated. It may not have been perfectly truthful, but still a harsh conclusion to a film that portrays an oppressed soul. I would recommend this film to just about anyone.
