American Nightmare 2

There are rumours of a sequel.

But we all know about rumours....they can be just that, rumours.

However looking on amazon.co.uk for American Nightmare on DVD i was suprised to see American Nightmare 2 available for pre - order. with a release date of Jan 1st 2020. (it had a price tag of £11.99)

Take this however you want but this certainly make it more likely there will be a sequel.

However with the release date of 2020 it looks like we could be waiting a while!

The Highland Myst Entertainment website has regular updates regarding the development of the sequel.

there is a movie called "suburban nightmare"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0328897/

and it has more or less the same cast. i dunno if its a sequel or not. does anyone know?

Although it's made by most of the same production team, 'Suburban Nightmare' is not a sequel to 'American Nightmare.' Originally it had another title (I can't remember what it was) but it was retitled to capitalise on the success of 'American Nightmare.' Debbie Rochon co-wrote 'Suburban Nightmare' and was originally going to play the female lead, but had to drop out after suffering a serious hand injury (see Debbie's message board here on the IMDB for more details).

Regarding the genuine 'American Nightmare 2', it was supposed to start filming in March 2005, but financing problems lead to the date being pushed back to October 2005. However, I've just checked Highland Myst's website for any updates and it's been removed from their 'In Development' schedule. I guess this means it'll never happen. A real shame. I think the original 'American Nightmare' is a great movie, and was really looking forward to the sequel.

'American Nightmares' is shown as being back in development on the Highland Myst website.

Set on Halloween night, six years after the original, the script has Jane Toppan phoning the American Nightmare radio show and challenging the authorities and the FBI to explain to her why she's compelled to kill. And until they can provide the answer, she's going to spend the night murdering several victims whom she's already selected, exposing them to their greatest fear(s).

Sounds great. Fingers crossed that it goes into production.

There are two different American Nightmare sequels in the work. Debbie Rochon and I are shopping one script called American Nightmares and we have a second script that we are finalizing for another set of producers. If everything goes through, we'll be filming the later in early 2008.

That's great news. Hope everything goes smoothly. Can you give us some brief spoiler-free synopses of the stories in the two scripts?

reply

This first script has Jane Toppan returning to Texas as she's being hunted by the FBI. The FBI is using a survivor of one of Jane's attacks to lure her into a trap... but perhaps the trap is actually one set by Jane. As in the first movie, fears are shared and used by Jane. This story also further explores why Jane does what she does. The story for the second script is still being worked out and fine-tuned, so I can't share much on that one as of yet.

Thanks for the info. Good luck with both projects. Would love to see Jane Toppan again.

American Nightmares is no longer shown as being in development on the Highland Myst website. Instead, the script's been reworked into a new project called Lady Misery, with a new female serial killer replacing Jane Toppan. I guess Keyes figured that too much time had passed since the original American Nightmare to make a sequel viable.
