Could Ashram's party have defeated Shooting Star?

Kashue's party did it, mainly through a lot of protection spells on Kashue and then splitting open the Earth after Shooting Star was wounded by Ashram and Parn.

If Ashram's party had done it...

They would have all been protected/strengthened by Hobb.
Astar could have summoned a Behemoth or maybe some fire elemental that would have drawn the dragon's main focus.
Groder and Gaberra would have used magical attacks more powerful than anything Slayn and Cecil could conjure, and perhaps could have offered protection spells for Ashram and Smeddy.
Smeddy would have just been a diversion. Probably would have been good to have Gilram as a diversion too.
Ashram still would have managed to stab the dragon in the head.

Also, if Ashram and Hobb had joined the fight outside, would they have won? Ashram and Kashue probably balance out, but maybe Hobb's chants would have given the rest enough extra strength to eek out a win?

Plus the battle outside the dragon's lair makes no sense. All 4 of Ashram's minions were defeated in hand to hand combat when their specialties (other than Smeddy's) were spells. So in a real fight they would have just stood back and let the dragon's tooth warriors attack while casting spells to support them. Parn, Shiris and Orson would have spent all their time protecting Slayn, Leylia and Cecil from the dragon's tooth warriors - if any got past, Slayn & co wouldn't have been able to deflect magical attacks from Groder and Gaberra while also fending off the dragon's tooth warriors.
