Fortunately, for you, KallistoOfArcadia , Rest Stop is my FAVORITE EPISODE, because it has Amy Jo Johnson in it! (I have been a fan of her work, since POWER RANGERS!)

Okay, then, here's the synopsis for Rest Stop...

Amy Jo's character, Sara, and her 3 friends pick-up a hitch-hiker (Jerry O'Connell) while on their way to a ski trip, and pull over at a rest stop, when nature calls!

When they arrive at the rest stop, there appears to be a group of "vendors" selling knick-knacks to passersby! When they emerge from the restrooms, they discover that everyone has left -- INCLUDING: their vehicle, and all of their belongings!

That's when they realize that one of their friends is, now, MISSING!

In the Men's Restroom their missing friend had been attacked! (A group of hooded people held him down, on the ground, forced a long-stemmed, metallic funnel down his throat, and poured a weird substance into it!)

As they look around for their friend, the group is terrorized by a huge truck, as it attempts to run them down!

The group eludes the truck -- and the truck takes off, for now! They find their missing friend... only, "something" has happened to him! He appears to be alive, but is unresponsive!

Amy Jo's and Jerry's characters elect to remain behind, to keep an eye on their catatonic friend, while the rest of the group tries to find civilization! It isn't long before they're being pursued, once more -- and another victim is claimed!

Meanwhile, Jerry's character "puts the moves" on Amy Jo's character -- and she, FLAT-OUT, rejects him!

Amy Jo's character's girlfriend returns to the restroom, where they're holed-up, in a state of panic!

When they return, from looking for the truck that was pursuing them, they discover their catatonic friend's missing -- ONCE AGAIN!

Jerry's character reassures them that everything will be alright, as he heads out to find some help, only for him to disappear, as well!

Amy Jo's character tells her friend to "wait here", while she peeks outside, only to discover her girlfriend's disappeared when she returns!

All alone in the restroom, Amy Jo's character tries to keep her composure, despite the fact she's a nervous wreck, when she hears a faint whimper, coming from one of the bathroom stalls!

Amy Jo's character discovers a secret tunnel, in a stall, and travels down into it! She exits the tunnel, and enters a cavern, full of equipment (from other missing people) as well as their own!

Again, Amy Jo's character hears another faint whimper and realizes, as she looks down, at the storage racks, that it's her missing girlfriend -- only, now, she's just like her other friends, on the other storage racks -- COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE!

As Amy Jo's character tries (with little effort) to stir her friends, from their paralyzed state, Jerry's character emerges from the shadows!

Amy Jo's character begs and pleads with him to help her with her friends, only for Jerry's character to reveal his true motives... as more-and-more of the "vendors" enter the cavern -- and seize her!

Jerry's character explains to her how he was looking for a mate, and had chosen her -- that is, until she rejected him... and how he and the "vendors" made their livelihood out of -- LITTERALLY -- recycling humans, and giving them REAL VALUE -- which she, and her friends, took for granted!

The "vendors" pry Amy Jo's character's mouth wide open, as Jerry's character forces a long-stemmed, metallic funnel down her throat!

Jerry's character picks up a large jar, containing the weird substance, and swishes the liquid around!

"Sweet Dreams!", he tells her, with an evil grin, and pours the substance down her throat!

As he pours the substance, her eyelids flicker, and her eyes roll into the back of her head, as her body's forced to surrender to complete paralysis -- the scene fades...!

...The final scene shows Jerry O'Connell's character, once again, walking down a deserted mountain road -- looking for his next prey...! (THE END!)

Host: Some people end up in the trash heap of life. Others get recycled.

I did warn you that I am a fan of that episode!

I promise I'll limit myself, on the synopsis for "Afterlife"...

It begins with Randy Quaid's character deceased -- and in a coffin!

I don't remember the specific details, but somehow he rose-up in his coffin, during the funeral -- and began acting out of [his] character!

He tells everyone that he had this "perfect vision" of Heaven... and even tried to recreate it, by drawing it, on one of the walls, in his house!

No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't rid himself of the "vision", and became convinced that the ONLY WAY to -- TRULY -- show his wife and daughter, would be for them to die, as well...

When he realized that his wife and daughter didn't want to share, in his "vision", he leapt from their apartment balcony...

So, we end this episode, with (you guessed it!) his funeral -- and, we, the audience, get a glimpse of what his "perfect vision" of Heaven was... A painted mural, on the ceiling of the funeral home...! (THE END!)

Well, I hope that not only did I inform you, but entertained you, as well!

I hope that this helps...!

Luke: I don't believe it!
Yoda: That...is why you fail!

Yeah, I remember watching that show. I think those two stories were my favorite from the series run, so creepy.

It would be the ONLY reason, that I'd buy the series -- if it were released onto DVD!

Unfortunately, with the 2nd Depression [Oops! I meant to say Recession!], and the studio's Red Tape, who knows when it will be released...?

Two episodes stand out in my mind, REST STOP being one of them. It comes pretty close to looking lika a theatrical movie, and in fact bears certain similarities to 1993's WRONG TURN and the indie thriller, REST STOP (about a woman trapped in a rural rest stop by a shadowy killer). My other favorite episode is the one with Bill Pullman as a scientist trying to figure a way into a bucolic dimension, encased in an impenetrable bubble, that has suddenly materialized in the desert. The episode has ties to the "Willoughby" episode from the original Twilight Zone series. Pullman, a terrific actor, makes this fantasy work. And like REST STOP, it has a very twisty, shock-ending.

"Bill Pullman as a scientist trying to figure a way into a bucolic dimension, encased in an impenetrable bubble"

I vaguely remember that one. What was the twist ending again? Was it something about the people on the farm being monsters or cannibals or something?

reply

Exactly, they would lure the curious to enter their world to eat them.

Chiller has been airing these again.. but the guide always says its supposed to be Tales from the Crypt.. so i tivo a couple favorite episodes only to find half an epi of Night Visions..

ive grown to really like the show now. and just watched the Rest Stop episode. creepy. the only other one that really sticks out to me as a favorite is If A Tree Falls.. with Natasha Lynonne.. 3 teens get in a car accident and drown but no one was around to see them die.. so 'they' walked away from the wreck and went about their lives. one of the boys thought this was wrongful to god and decided to reveal that they had died to send them all to heaven. when he went to retrieve the bodies from the wreck he could only release his friends before the car with his body still in it rolled into a deep cavern too deep for anyone to get to. his friends vanished and he was left to live on without them. the end message was something like 'sometimes it just is a miracle and take it as that.'

It is totally ridiculous when the IMDB comes in and censors posts because they contain so-called "spoilers" - that's what we come here for....to inquire about, discover, and discuss things. If people don't want to see plots, they can stay away.
