Was this show really weird and surreal?

I remember watching this when I was about 6 years old when I couldnt speak English and remember being incredibly ethereal. Is the show really like that?

Well it's certainly very imaginative and I still enjoy watching the show even though I'm 23.

I actually haven't seen the final episode. There are about 40 episodes that have never been dubbed or subbed so I reckon the last episode is in japanese, unfortunately :/
