How did Maya become part of the Girlfriend gang?

I noticed on the episode today (the AIDS episode), there was a flashback where Toni, Lynn and Joan are all in college together and living in the same dorm, so when did they meet Maya? I know that she's a high school dropout who got pregnant and never went to college with any of them and I don't remember seeing an episode about how they met.

I think someone had already answered this but I got the complete series on DVD recently and Maya was hired as Joan's assistant and that's how she became part of the gang. They explained it in the very first episode which I don't think I'd ever seen before.
