What happened? - How to get episodes...

Was the show really that unpopular that it didn't even make it to its second season? I realize that it's not exactly original (duh, since it's a remake), but I thought it was a really good show. I could see where it probably would have only lasted a few seasons just because there are only so many episodes you can make before you start repeating basic ideas.

DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHERE I COULD GET A COLLECTION OF ALL THE EPISODES? I recorded a few of them. I pulled out that tape a while ago and watching it I realized that the show was just as good as I remembered it. Unfortunately I don't remember the unrecorded episodes hardly at all. I hope someone can help.

I'm in the same condition as you are, ie I've seen some episodes (Channel 4 of MediaSet in Italy) but missed others, especially the initial and the last. I'm looking for some way to get ahold of the whole series. I'll let you know if I find something and maybe you could let me know if you do, ok?

John,
Sounds like a plan. I'll do that; thanks.

Sfdoordie, I regret to say that the show isn't available on home video in any format. Therefore, obtaining the episodes may be difficult.

To answer your other question, there was a lot of hype prior to its debut. While CBS hoped that it would become a big hit, that was not to be. Although first two episodes garnered big ratings, it went downhill after that. People just simply tuned out.

Indeed, there have been several other shows that were followed by remakes (excluding "based-on-TV-show" movies), such as Family Affair and The Odd Couple. But the result was the same: the remakes were short-lived. It could be very well that the audience's response was "been there done that." I guess it shows that certain things only work once. Just because a show worked well doesn't guarantee that a remake would become equally successful.

reply

Yeah, I didn't expect it to last too long but I did expect it to last a little while. The fact that it was a remake was enough by itself. My mom was familiar with the original series and didn't like this one. I think it likely would have made it a while if they had waited longer before remaking it, because there are still a lot of people that are familiar with the original. Pretty much only the good shows get remade because they were popular, but at the same time, that means that the remake has a lot to live up to. I think the only problem with this version of The Fugitive was that it wasn't the orignal.

I was around for the original series and feel that (comparing the level of TV writing and acting at the time) new one was definitely equal to if not better than the original. My wife and I seem to have a curse on any show that is very good....if we like it, it will be cancelled. One example is The Marshal starring Jeff Fahey. Another well written and directed series with good actors and good acting. Once we took a liking to it, bang there it went. One more example, Under Cover with John Rhys-Davies and Linda Purl (1991). We liked it for the six weeks it was on then, bang. And there are others. Oh well, here's to hoping The Fugitive (and others) comes out on DVD some day.

reply

Does it not only show, starting a remake (or any other show for that matter - fictious or not) with a "bang" (big audience expectations from the start), instead of developing good stories from the ground (even for remakes), is the most certain path to doom?

reply

I thought it was supposed to be just one season. After all, the plot is resolvable - eventually, they would've HAD to catch the one-armed man, then what?

reply

I only have the one episode called st. christophers prayer when his father dies. It was filmed at my house so I felt the need to tape it. That whole series was filmed in everett washington. I watched them film most of the episodes which was quite interesting. You might be able to contact warner brothers studio. That's who did the filming.

Ok, all you fans out there. I just found a DVD on ebay that is up for bidding at $9.99 right now (0 bids). It has the first two episodes of the series, but THE BIDDING WILL BE DONE IN ONE DAY (and a few hours) SO HURRY. Here's the site:

Sorry I didn't reply for so long. I looked up the description of the episode "Guilt"... #3 and it sounds VERY familiar which very likely means that yes I do have it. It would be on a VHS tape. I could make a copy of it and send it to you.

By the way, i never heard back from WB. Oh well, didn't really expect to.

I need any episodes on VHS or Dvd that any of you may have...I'm willing to pay for them---can any of you help me? I work at a radio station and we do a contest called "The Fugitive" and need many sound bites from the show.
Thank you,
Bill

I have maybe 5-6 episodes on VHS tape. They are recorded in EP/SLP. I could make copies of all of them. If I rerecord them in EP, the sound won't be real good, but I could get it on one tape. I could do it in LP - it would be a little better quality and take 1 or 2 tapes. SP would be the best quality but would take 2-3 tapes. If you want you can reimburse me for the cost of the tape, which would be about a dollar per tape. You don't have to pay me for the episodes; that might not even be legal. They aren't professional copies - just what I recorded off TV, but last time I watched it, it was in good shape.

Let me know if you're interested. If so, I'll look up my tape and see exactly which episodes and how many are on it and answer any other questions you have.

Jo,
Thank you so much...ANYTHING you have would be very helpful. What I need are as many episodes as you have. I need to scan them for sound bites that I can use in our "Fugitive" contest that we run on our radio station, WAPE-FM. The contest will begin around the end of march so I need to get hoppin'! When it hits the air I'll give you the website info so you can follow along if you want. What do you need from me? Here's my mailing address:
Cat Thomas
c/o WAPE
8000 Belfort Parkway
Suite 100
Jacksonville, Fl. 32256
(904)245-8544

Let me know how much I owe you and I'll get it right out to you...tapes, postage cost, etc. Thank you again for responding and I'm sure there's some stuff from the show I can use.

reply

I need shipping which will probably be about $3 but shouldn't be more than $5. Do you want the copies in SLP/EP, LP, or SP (if you don't know what this is, see my previous post). Tape cost will vary depending on which tape speed you want... about a dollar per tape (VHS). Also I don't want to post my mailing address on the forum, so could you tell me your email address?

Also you should know this from the site but just want to clarify for sure before I send them. This is The Fugitive starring Tim Daly which premiered in 2000 (not the original from the '60s).

WHAT I NEED:
1. shipping/tape cost: will let you know exact when I get it wrapped up and weighed at the post office
2. tape speed: SLP/EP, LP, or SP
3. your email address

Jo

reply

Gotcha. My email is:
[email protected].

Yep, I know it's not the show from the 60's.
I'll send you a check for what amount you tell me.
You can put it on slow speed to get it on as few tapes as possible.

reply

I have looked and the episodes I have are:
Guilt
Far From Home
Lagniappe
New Orleans Saints
Past Perfect
Jenny (part one only)

If anyone else would like a tape of these let me know. Since I am going to send one to leend2003, i know that shipping will be about $2.55 (may vary a little depending where I am sending it). The envelope is $1.29 and a blank tape is about $.90. That comes to $4.74, but 4.50 is close enough. I'll enclose a copy of the post office receipt so that you can prove that you are only reimbursing me for expenses and not paying for the episodes. Let me know if you want any of the episodes.
