Because after Lynne Thigpen died, the show lost focus - they tried to hard to give the Chief another female confidant, between Cavanaugh, Sherri and that smart mouthed former University cop...
I hated seeing this show go. I loved it.

shareI've been watching the repeats on A&E. It was a slow start, but it is growing on me. It is not a bad show. The writing was clever. Also, the cops, especially Crag T Nelson's character, was written with a heart and that something that tends to be missing in other police shows. It was nice and a different change of pace to see a police show located somewhere other than LA and NYC. It did show the beauty of our nations capitol.
It lasted for 4 years, which is a lot longer than most shows. Thank goodness for repeats because otherwise I would have missed out on a good show.
One of the best shows ever, my wife and I watch it everyday on A&E. Trying to find it on DVD, found it on a few peoples site, but they want $200 for all 4 seasons. A little too high in my opinion.
shareThe show was canceled because CBS decided to cancel all the scripted shows that were on Saturday night, even though the show still had strong ratings. Too bad the show just wasnt moved to another night.

and, $200 is too high for 4 seasons of a show. I have paid $99 for 9 seasons of a show before.
i miss this show, a friend of mine was very nice to record me the episodes because the show didn't run where i live. this show had a real great cast and i was shocked when i've read Lynne passed away. miss her and the show!
shareOne of the best shows ever made. The show was in the Top 20 it's entire run, and even hitting the Top 10. The show got cancelled because CBS was getting out of 1st run shows, and after Ella died in real life they didn't think the show could go on, even though it stayed in the Top 20.

sharei agree it was a great show. i think it had not been the same since they killed off david patrick o'hara. id like to find this show on dvd. ive tried and typing in the district all that comes up is the newer detroit show.
