I think, for a sitcom that only lasted one season Bette was one of the better ones. I also took a notice that the show was nominated in number of awards, even Golden Glodes. So why is no-one interested in having a dvd or just chatting about it?
I used to love this show! I think you either love bette or hate her and that was probably the problem..... There were also various rumours about the cast not getting along, but isn't there always with series! LOL. Well, I would love to chat about it more, but I can't really remember the episodes!! It'd be awesome if it came out on DVD!
I can't remember much neither, but I do remember the great chemistry between Bette and Joanna Gleason. Does anyone know why Bette got cancelled after one season?
There was a tremendously funny episode where Bette won an award but forgot to thank her husband. She then tries to get another award so she can thank him properly, gets an in-flight movies award, which is totally beyond humiliating, gets up on stage, says "Thanks, Roy" and walks off. Freaking hilarious! Great writing and Bette rules!
What is it, Old Nehamkin? You are not looking well.
Some favorite lines bette had in the series was in the pilot when she talks about losing the oscar for the Rose against Sally Field, Bette says completly deadpan "Sally Field my ass". Bette was also hilarious when she was working as a waitress in a diner and to become the role of a prostitute trying to make it good, she was all done up in a dark wig and wore her famous spiked heels as she served customers. A man ordered fried chicken or some fatty food, and bette said,"and a side of paramedics to revive you". Bette also voluntered at her daughters school where fellow mom Olivia newton John was also volunteering, bette had to teach capitols of countries to a history class and she said "anybody ask me a counrty". A girl said Thailand and bette replied "Bang Cock", and then she asked "how do we remember Bang Cock?", and then finding the humor bette asks "what grade is this?" and a girl replies 7th and bette says "ok then moving right along" totally hilarious!! Another episode had bette going to the grammy's she wore a stunning dress that looked beautiful at home but became see through on the red carpet with all the photographers!! Her friend Connie whispers this in bettes ear and bette exclaims" Oh my God you can see my Geena Davis!!" referring to how geena davis wore a see through dress that year to a show which exposed her vagina! There were so many great lines in this series and it was truely hilarious!!
bette also jokes to her husband while hes getting passionate about shakespeare" Roy! I haven't seen you this excited since Lil kim called you mack daddy at circut city!!"
Bette also takes her husband and daughter to a lakers game where instead of vip floor seats Bette is forced to sit in the nose bleed section and her nose actually bleeds!! bette says "oh my god these seats are horrible, who sits this high up?" and bettes daughter replies "people sit this high at your concerts" and then Bette says "What devotion!"
I LOVED this show! I'd watch it every Wednesday night! I really miss it! My fav. episode was when Bette was asked to discuss a book on "The View." Needless to say, she didn't read it and what took place was hilarious. I still think of that episode to this day and laugh out loud and for so long! This show was brilliant but for some reason, it wasn't given a chance!
Wait a minute! I smell liquor on my breath: You're drunk!
Oh my god I LOVED that part!It was sooooo funny!!! I also loved this one part where Roy got Bette to admit she was wrong, and as she was hugging him she mouths *beep* behind his back!!! My favourite episode was the one called In My Life, where Bette is playing "Nobody else but you" on the piano and one by one Roy, Connie, Oscar and Rose sit next to her, and as they each sit down, it goes back in time to when they first met. Oh yeah, most of the episodes are on veoh.com (I think there's two missing, but it goes up to 16-A Brand New Roy)
This WAS one of the most hilarious (if not silly) sitcoms of all time. If you just treated it as comedy (and not an attempt at high art as TV critic usually do) then you would have been able to appreciate the show for what it was.
And I gotta give full respect to the Divine Miss M for so hilariously poking fun at herself and her persona week after week.
The episode when she was trying to multi-task and had to sing The Rose at a funeral had me rolling around in fits of laughter. Strapped for time she sang it faster and faster until she was almost rambling the lines and ran out of the church off to the next task. You gotta see it to get the hilarity of the situation.
I pray everyday that a DVD release will be announced ..... and every day I go to bed disappointed.
Did anyone see her 2004 tour? She did a hilarious skit about the disaster that was the Bette sitcom.
Yeah, I saw that part on youtube, but it's been deleted now. The Judge Judy skit was hillarious, and then she started belting out "Nobody But The Jews", a parody of the theme song "Nobody Else But You"!!!!!
Sony DO have a voting thing, where you pick three out of a list of shows that should be released next!
I also hope this show comes out on DVD, as I have only seen them on the internet- I'm from the UK, so I didn't get to see them when they originally aired... :(
Rodgers are you still praying? Because it doesn't seem to be working yet. I really want this released on DVD. I can't remember any of the episodes I can only remember how I would look forward to watching it every single week and laugh through the whole episode. I thought it was a very funny show. Oh yeah I use to be obsessed with wishing my house looked like that set, I thought it was a beautiful home.
It didn't last a season- it was canceled mid season... N the show was horrible / because Bette insisted on being hands on - instead of letting the top writers she was given do their job.... And Bette do hers, act , be funny..... And get that chip off that shoulder...
