other furture sports movies?

Not sure whether to put this under the original rollerball or future sport. I put it here since it is the most recent of these movies. Maybe it will be read more.

Can you name other movies where there is a cool sport in the future? I'm not talking about man vs. man fighting movies, like boxing or ultimate fighting or wrestling. But a whole newly designed game with rules. That are contained maybe in some sort of arena or field. The harry potter game where they fly on brooms (can't think of the name at the moment), is not really what I'm looking for. More of a meaner game where players can be killed. Maybe taking the place of world wars, like other movies along these lines.

Try the 1987 version of "The Running Man" with Schwarzenegger. It's a pretty good film (it was based on a Stephen King short story), and it sounds exactly like what you are looking for.

The Prize of Peril, Das Millionenspiel, Death Race 2000, Deathsport, Robot Jox, Salute of the Jugger, Endgame, Rome 2072/New Gladiators, The Gladiators...

Of all the deathsport movies I have ever seen, the Rollerball remake is the worst of all. And with crap like Endgame, that is really saying something.

Good question. Seems like there should be more, but can't think of any off the top of my head.
There was a football sequence in Starship Troopers, but it was pretty much just regular football played in the future with both males and females on the team.

Just watched Rollerball 2002. It could've been good even as a remake of the classic, but it wasn't.

And flipping.

Hey, it's back! Check the profile for the message boards I control.

This is one reason I really enjoyed Slamball. Which was a real sport.

Black Gestapo looks to have covered the bases (great name, terrible movie). Maybe worth looking at Series 7: The Contenders, Turkey Shoot, Battle Royale, Surviving the Game...

EDIT

For a very different take on the same theme check out Peter Watkins masterpiece The War Game (1965)

Wasn't there a movie built on the theme of commando football, where players wore regular football uniforms but carried automatic weapons slung over their shoulders? And the game was played in an abandoned downtown metro area, like New York or something? Seems like the game was played across many city blocks, and not just 100 yards.

If there isn't, you should be a screenwriter for Van Dam or Segal.

Can anyone name the movie will7370 is describing above? Sounds like one I'd sure like to see. Thanks.

This describes a book - Killerbowl - by Gary Woolf (I think). Whether they ever made a movie of it, I don't know, but maybe this will help.

I can't believe people didn't bring up "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" yet. Best future sport movie I've ever seen.

And "Escape from LA" the future of basketball right there.

I'm actually looking for a particular future sports movie. It was made back in the 1980s, I believe, and was about a bunch of kids in a post-apocalyptic world where "gang members" were on roller skates. I thought it was called "Rollerbabies," but I'm not sure, and I have yet to find it. Any thoughts?

You were close - it was called "Solarbabies"!
