John McTiernan

Did this movie start the ending of the career of John McTiernan as a director?

I know 13th Warrior was not a hit, personally I liked it alot.

Or did some great law enforcers/justice break this man by:
"Case was tried and US conviction was handed down on 10/4/2010 by US District Judge Dale Fischer with one-year sentence and $100,000 USD fine against McTiernan. McTiernan's attorneys announced intent to appeal and he is currently free on appeal."

If that's the case, thanks! American law enforcement (yeah judges and lawyers as well) to kill a fine director.

I've wondered the same thing. From the man who directed contemporary classics like Hunt for Red October, Die Hard, Predator, and even 13th Warrior, it makes you shake your head and wonder "what happened?"

I'm unfamiliar with the "conviction" info you posted. Is that for real and does it involvethis McTiernan?

Open the pod bay doors, Hal.

I do not know where i copied that info from, I should have mentioned my source at that time.. but wait we have google .... lol

1 minute later ...

actually IMDB itself picked up what I picked up when I started this thread, now IMDB on Tiernan states:

In a criminal-wiretapping case filed by the U.S. District Attorney for Los Angeles, John McTiernan plead guilty to lying to F.B.I. agents about requesting to have Anthony Pellicano investigate producer Charles Roven during production of "Rollerball". Sentenced to four months in federal prison on 09/24/07, plea was withdrawn and restated as innocent since statement had been given to FBI when McTiernan was admittedly suffering jet-lag and drunk after arriving in US from UK trip. Case was tried and US conviction was handed down on 10/4/2010 by US District Judge Dale Fischer with one-year sentence and $100,000 USD fine against McTiernan. McTiernan's attorneys announced intent to appeal and he is currently free on appeal.

So, in a way, Rollerball did end his career, very sad in my opinion.
He mistrusted his producer because he knew Rollerball with this producer would both lick and suck. He was a visionary, hehee.

He did spent FOUR months in jail, so that would have killed him.

Come back Mc Tiernan, action flicks have dropped to a low.

THIS producer made The Dark Knight Trilogy, 12 monkeys and many others classic movies!
