The Best Unintentional Comedy Ever Made

I would give anything to know what John McTiernan was smoking or drinking or snorting or what pill he was popping or all of the above when he was in the process of making this movie. I've seen some bad movies before but to make a movie this bad with all the money involved and with a director who at one point was making classic actions movies is unbelievable. I've haven't laughed this much since I watched Plan 9 From Outer Space.

First of all, who the hell in there right mind would pick Chris Klien as an action hero? He's got to be the worst action hero in action movie history, and the funniest. The delivery of great lines like "Hey, thanks for saving my ass" and "Something's up! I dunno" is just pure genius. Chris Klien should have went back to the American Pie movies on his hands and knees offering to pay the producers to be in American Wedding. I think I laughed everytime he tried to put on his serious guy look in this movie. Chris Klien in this movie made Keanu Reeves look like the second coming of Al Pacino! While I'm mentioning bad acting, what the heck was up with Jean Reno? I've seen him be pretty good at times, but he was completely out of place here, although completely hilarious most of the time when I could understand what the hell he was talking about.

Let's not forget the great Night Vision sequence, WTF was that? That scene went on for 15 minutes and you couldn't see a damn thing. Not that I'm complaining, the less Chris Klien the better. What a great Idea from McTiernan, the serious artist, lets make a 15 minute scene where nobody can make out what the hell is going on in the movie, it'll be artistic.

I read somewhere that this movie cost $80 million dollars to make. There isn't a single sequence in the film that justifies that amount of money. Personally, I think the money was spent on a secret John McTiernan cocaine binge, or maybe it was extacsy judging by the night vision sequence. In the end I haven't laughed this hard in a long time.

reply

I agree with this entirely.

So bad it's great.

Blocking a shotgun round with a stool was my favourite.

reply

Yeah the night vision scene was such a joke and the other action sequences were badly shot too.

The only good elements were from the origional.

I have a theory about this joke of a production and I can sum it up in four words - "Executive producer - Vince McMahon."

Best is not a term you use in any way to describe this film. Not best unintentional comedy or anything like that. This film just plain HURTS TO WATCH. It is the very worst thing I have ever seen and the biggest example of wasted potential onscreen I have ever seen. I don't even know where to begin. I don't wanna begin. I shouldn't even be talking about this movie. I'm having migraines just remembering seeing it. This is the kind of movie that should be used as torture in order to get information out of the enemies of the United States. "No, no noOooooooo!!1 Don't make me watch McTiernan's 'Rollerball'!!! For the love of god I'll tell you what I know but don't make me watch it!!! PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!" And then there's that flick "Basic". Crap. What can I say, McTiernan? What the hell happened to you?

"You do not know who you are *beep* with!!"

Until i saw this movie i had no idea it could actually be this painful to watch a film! (i haven't seen gigli yet though).

i think the editor and camera operator must have gotten their hands on some of McTiernans drugs.. the shaky camera might have worked i NYPD blue but it definately didn't work here, and all the jump-cuts and poor editing made my eyes sore and my head pound..

this was so bad it went beyond being funny, and back to bad again..

i want my 94 minutes back again!!

Compared to this movie, Gigli is actually good. I've seen dozens of movies far worse than Gigli (like the Rollerball remake), but I don't get what people were so worked up about. This piece of crap remake belongs on the IMDb bottom 100 far more than Gigli does.

For one thing Ms. Lopez is rather easy on the eyes, sure she's kinda skanky but still nice to look at. I don't remember a whole lot about it having seen it over 3 years ago, but there was a nice scene when she was talking about her "kitty" to her future ex (Ben) while she was performing yoga rather sensually.

puh. what are you guys talking about! this movie ruled! it was awesome!
totally killer! seriously, i enjoyed it. and i liked the bad camera work. and bad editing. who gives a damn about what is actually happening i don't really. seriously, i enjoyed and am not ashamed.

reply

Lol lol lol.

And they managed to take that really great ending from the origional and totally replace it with what could possibly be the worst set of action sequences ever seen in a film.

reply

Your totally wrong...

The best unintentional comedy is leprachaun.

It's not as much as it's illegal as much as it's wrong...

SHAKE THE CRIME STICK!

reply

Well, they certainly made it into one as the series progressed... !

I said "Always" because 'True love never dies'.

reply

Can't say I like the ending of the original at all.
Especially the painful zooming.
Maybe I'm just not 'merican 'nuff for that kinda stuff.

reply

I agree with b-a-h TNT-6. That "Boing!" totally made this film - it's the reason I gave it a 1 instead of 0. I was laughing so hard I missed the whole remainder of the film (not that I cared at all).

reply

Pretty much the only really great part of this movie was the music....the one or two good POD songs they have and the house band were a little entertaining. but the Really great part was the maybe 20 seconds they had Slipknot playing. yeah!

reply

I have never seen either of the Rollerball movies, but in all seriousness, the best unintentional comedy ever made has to be Full Metal Jacket. Some parts of that movie, especially in the first half, are hysterical.

reply

(I can't follow.)

reply

"Full Metal Jacket"'s comedy isn't unintentional... my vote for unintentially funniest film goes to "the Core", but i did study science...

"Yeah? Well, you know... that's just like, uh... your opinion, man"

reply

I'd totally forgotten about that. When I saw that it made me put palm to forehead. I have three good things I'll say about this movie.

1. I liked when the whole red team started skating around the rink after the guy got hit in the face with the ball. Team unity with the goal of ass-kicking.

2. I liked the song they played while they did it.

3. I know now that my dream of working in Hollywood may one day come true, if they let guys who make movies like this have a job.

Stephen King's IT might be a little funnier than this.....not sure

reply

"BOING! "

yep, it was the best sound effect in the whole movie. I think that moment made it for me

No!! Don't eat me!!!

I've come to the conclusion that the producers had some information that could have led to the arrest of the entire cast of this movie, and that's why they were in it.

reply

Has anyone seen Road House? That gets my vote. That is so cheesy and 80's and has Patrick Swayze! It's great for a laugh.

ROFL, this was just as funny as Scream was to me, i know the movies are nothing alike but they're both so pathetic, i couldn't believe this piece of crap, it ruined a classic, just like Starship troopers 2 ruined the first one, oh my god, how did McTieren stuff it up so incrediably bad? He's done great action movies from predator, last action Die hard with avengence and even basic, but what the *beep* is this lol!

reply

I just saw the 1975 Rollerball. It was AMAZING. If I ever become a director, I'll do a better remake of the 1975 one than John fudging McTierman.

Chris as a lead, tough guy and protagonist was absolutely hilarious. I can't help but love this movie and all of its ridiculousness.
