don't bother with the ersatz Hollywood version (No Reservations)

Terrible English title (Mostly Martha); far superior film. Once again, Hollywood co-opts a story and completely misses the core of what was good about it. Cf. the rapturous and unique Wings of Desire and...City of Angels. Rrrrf.

Further evidence that Hollywood is out of ideas, or rather, that they don't see any particular point in expending effort to get new ones. People go the theater because it's Friday or Saturday, or whatever. Because it's a date. It hardly matters what's on the screen, so Hollywood gives you something that hardly matters, because the dollars spend the same, because millions of Americans say it's OK every single week. Dollars are votes.

... and because main stream English (as a first language) speaking audiences as a whole don't bother speaking languages other than English, or bother with sub titles for that matter. Shame really because audiences are making the cinematic experience that much more poorer for themselves, and with very little effort on their part.

I can't agree I like the original but the remake was much better than you would expect it to be and is very enjoyable and even more surprising quite moving.

Remember it was made by the director of the original film and in this instance it shouldn't just be dismissed as rubbish as it's actually a good film as well.
