definitely deserves a higher rating!!!

What a spectacular film. Powerful, moving, historically accurate (almost the entire speech Lumumba orated in the film was taken verbatim from his actual speech!).
I also think this is a great way to get more insight into why African unity, peace, development, and progress is so difficult to attain and achieve.
I could write more, but I might as well make a user review, haha..

anyone else feel this movie was better than "6.9" (as of July 25, 2006)?

i completely agree. 6.9 is an insult. this movie was fantastic, and i'm confused at this collaborative rating....kinda makes you ask questions.

It could be a political thing... it's not exactly a 'feel good movie'

but I completely agree

I just saw this movie for a class in African History and Film, and was incredibly moved. I loved this movie and have immense respect for the figure of Lumumba. Reminded me in a lot of ways of another movie I love quite a bit, Malcolm X. Simular themes and construction and so forth. Anyway, why on Earth is this film rated so low? Either imdb is populated heavily with Belgian apologists or simply people who don't like the story of a proud black man becoming a sort of messianic martyr. So racists and colonialists would be my guess.

Perfect movie and definitely deserves better but like outside in the world there are still sufficient ignorant and stubborn people living in the past who vote great political movies down. See for example Lord of War, or pass by at the board about "Hanoi" Jane Fonda and you see what I mean. Lumumba was definitely great and historically very accurate.

The only problem with this movie is that is leaves out the presence of Soviet Block advisers Lumumba brought into the Congo.
