The funeral scene

For me it wasn't such a good movie, but i was very impressed by Alexei's face. He seemed so innocent and clumsy... Although he wasn't pretty at all, he had something special in his look.
But I didn't understand very well the funeral scene. This happened between the scenes with the polish wedding. Someone said then: "It was such a nice boy, and he died just before he got married", or something like that. Does someone remember it?

reply

I thought that it was Alexei's sisters wedding and so the death could have been their father.

who was such a nice boy.. and bla bla.. this is why it seemed weird to me...

I don't even remember this scene. Either they cut it out of the version I saw or I went to the kitchen for a cup of tea!!!! I remember his mum asking him to take some money for the healings he did, but he didn't want to. I thought that was a wedding scene or perhaps I misunderstood.

Let me explain something. I'm from Poland, I'm Polish, and I was born here and have been living here all my life and I ensure you that this wedding was completely NOT Polish at all! If you just watch the movie a little bit more carefully you will notice that Alexey was from some parts of Russian theritories, far away from the border with Poland, and I know what I'm telling because I live in the northeastern Poland. Agieszka Holland, the movie's director, is Polish, as well as Maciej Stuhr, the blonde actor playing the young man helping organizig the sessions of Alexey (Maciej Stuhr is the son of a great Polish actor, Jerzy Stuhr). But the wedding was completely NON-Polish and I want to make it clear.

The wedding scene has nothing to do with Polish customs or believes. Polish people are mostly catholics. If you would have watched the movie attentively, Alexei is Russian. Russians are Orthodox. Therefore, the wedding has Russian customs. Why in the world would his sister have a Polish wedding, when she is Russian!?!

This is something I wrote.

I missed everything they said in that scene because I had a copy without subtitles and only speak English.
