Did anyone else think it was kind of mean the way that the teacher made Donnie's girlfriend choose a seat next to the guy that she thought was cutest? High school is stressful for most people on its own. Starting at a new high school is even more stressful. Walking into a class and being forced to immediately choose which guys are cute is even worse.
Why did the teacher do that? It seemed kind of out of character for her.

Had Gretchen picked someone else, I'm guessing that the teacher would've said "Are you sure? Do you want all of our worlds to end soon? Perhaps you should sit by the ugliest." And if it STILL wasn't Donnie, then she probably would've blurted out...
"Ah to hell with it! Just sit right here next to Donnie where you're supposed to! Kids these days--I tell ya! I just hope Donnie knows what I'm talking about later when I say 'cellar door'."
I felt worse for the other girl that had to move. Poor kid.
shareBeing all part of Donnie's destiny aside, she did tell the whole class to shut it when they all started laughing, so I don't believe she was trying to be mean at all. She most likely saw it as an opportunity to make a harmless joke, even if it would make the new girl feel awkward. Now if she was mean to anyone in that class, it would definitely have to be the girl who was made to give up her seat.
Looks like I'm walking - JW
