Portia seemed mis-cast

I just watched this movie last night, and was really impressed, especially by Tim Allens role as the movie quoting hitman. The only critique I have was that Portia De Rossi seemed a little mis-cast as the love interest/damsel role. I really like her acting in other roles, especially in Arrested Development, but this one I thought she wasnt suited to. There just seemed a lack of chemistry or something, and like the love story was too forced.

Anyone agree/disagree?

I haven't seen the movie but in her new book she talks about making this movie, and about how hard it was for her to do the crying scene. Actually, during the filming of this she was severely anorexic, eventually collapsing on set and being diagnosed with cirrhosis (sp?) of the liver and osteoporosis. She was also in a lot of physical pain during shooting, sometimes to the point where she couldn't even move because her joints hurt so badly.

While this role was very different from who she portrayed in shows like Arrested Development and Better Off Ted, you must remember this movie was made well before those shows. Also, she was younger and not as well known, so she would have had more lattitude to portray a character such as this. I thought she did very well in this role.

The real mis-casting was the use of homing pigeons depicted as making repeated round trips! Homing pigeons can only fly one way: back to their nest. The way the movie depicted the same pigeons flying back and forth, transporting the diamonds two at a time, was completely erroneous. (Helluva enjoyable movie, though...)
