I read this book when I was 10, and it was the first time (possibly only time) I ever cried while reading fiction.

No!
Why not!

I don't think they're making a remake. I think you were reading a "What If?", hypothetical movie site.

I was just thinking to myself, did they ever make a movie version of the cay? I kept thinking I had seen one but I remembered the people looking like they did in the book. The dark muscular old man with white white hair. And the frail looking pale blond kid. I've come to the conclusion that the book played so vividly in my mind (I used to be a bookaholic as a child) that I only imagined it. I've thought for a while now the actor Joe Seneca (rest in peace) looks like him and he's a phenomenal actor that could have played him wonderfully. I couldn't recall him actually doing it. But I vaguely remember seeing this one with James Earl Jones, so its a probability I have. I can't remember much but they probably didn't change it a lot. I replied because you talked about how the book made you cry and for me it had such a big impact that I dreamt up a movie that never happened. The book I own, which I haven't seen in years, has two people on it that fit the book description so I guess I filled out the blanks of the movie as I read along. A wonderful read and the boy really got on my nerves, as a child, but I understand it was a result of parenting. Anyway just wanted to add my piece. Sorry I can't be of more help.

R.I.P. Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett

I thought James Earl Jones gave an excellent portrayal of Timothy, but Alfred Lutter just could not play a believable blind kid.

I loved this book when we read it in 7th grade I had no idea they made a movie about it. With James Earl Jones as Timothy it is probably a good film. Kinda disappointed to find everyone saying it's not on video or DVD and is impossible to find though. Maybe youtube?
