i loved this when i was younger

i saw this film back when i was about 12 and i loved it,i mean i grew up with the brosnan bond films Goldeneye still remains one of my favorite bond films ever.

now that im ten plus years older and have read some of the books by Ian Fleming, i realize how terrible this movie is. the first half wasn't really too bad (apart from bond stopping his own heart and Halle Berry) but when bond gets re-hired and goes to Iceland it really goes downhill and just becomes a self parody. i think the approach to heavily use CGI was a complete mistake and to make the editing "music video like" is very gimmicky and dates the movie even more.

this is quite possibly my least favorite Bond film, its like the batman and robin of the franchise and casino royale is like the batman begins

Yeah, I think this is a strong contender for worst Bond film as well.

what are the things that you hated the most out of die another day?

reply

Oh man, where do I begin. Brosnan was starting to show his age, Halle Berry's flat performance as Jynx, and a plot that might have worked (though even that's a stretch) had it not taken a serious backseat to the non-stop and erratic action. The action itself too, while it had it's moments, didn't really work. The action bits were often too over-the-top and threw any sense of realism out the window. Wasn't helped by the HORRENDOUS cgi that has only gotten worse with age. I know that 007 movies haven't exactly been models of realism, but they often at least kept them within some sphere of reality, to a point where they could at least be executed in a believable manner with little to no cgi. Not the case with Die Another Day.... Oh and the invisible car.

Actually I liked this one better over time. I know its ludicrous but I think its great fun. Its my 9th favorite Bond film.

seriously?

to me it gets worse overtime and the CGI and editing don't help at all

reply

Yes.

I agree. It's a bit of a romp.

The thing that tips this ahead and keeps it from being the worst bond film is the first 13 minutes. Those are absolutely fantastic. Then the rest of the film happens and while I don't find it anywhere near as bad as some do, it is a weak entry.

I said it wasn't the worst Bond film to me. I'm not disagreeing. I do feel that its bad moments are absolutely horrid though and among the worst in Bond history. There is nothing patronizing about someone just giving there opinion.

Not surprising. It was specifically made to appeal to kids and teenagers, which is why put in terrible scenes like the CGI surfing. They wanted to make Bond appeal as much to younger audiences, and get away from a gambling, sophisticated British secret agent. They wanted to make Bond more like Vin Diesel's xXx

it's not widely regarded as the worst bond movie for nothing! it's good to see you have gained wisdom with age as well!
