Living in hiding for TWO YEARS?!

How on Earth did they not go insane with boredom and claustrophobia? Eight people trapped in such a small place, in hiding from the rest of the world, no TV, Internet wasn't around and the only other people they saw were the helpers.

I think when people think of Anne Frank and her story they do recognize that she was in hiding but they seem to focus more on the diary and the capture and her death, but I think the fact she was in hiding for so long is slightly overlooked. It wasn't like it was a few weeks or even a month or two, it was 25 months in those tiny rooms with seven other people. I can't even comprehend something like that.

What if someone took ill or had a serious accident? What if something happened to Miep and the helpers, or the business got taken over by new staff or something and the people in hiding were unable to get their own food and were trapped? So many scary questions I guess .

I was also wondering if Otto ever spoke of the day of the capture? If maybe the SS who found them maybe mentioned anything to them about who reported them? Just curiosity I guess.

A very pertinent question, to which I have no answer. Their relief at being temporarily spared, and the spirit of teamwork in protecting each other and their little oasis must have combined to keep them mutually bound to the "keep silent" pact. They had books, a radio, memories, each other, and the hope that they might outlast the Third Reich. The scary questions you list must have fallen under the larger umbrella of "just focus and survive". One of their major fears must have been fire - from their own smoking/cooking, or from some other source in the building, or even from some neighboring building - over which they would have no control... A nightmarish time, brightened only by hope.

Hey! During this holocaust period, I suppose they had to decide what's worse.......... Locked in a house for two years orrrr get threatened by Nazis who wanted to kill and send them to camps.

I suppose in tough situations you gotta make it work
