I would like to find a copy of this film, even if it's abridged. As a matter of fact, I'd like a copy of all his films from the late 60's to late 80's. Who owns these films? Why is an important director's films so hard to view? Having to wait for retrospects are fine, but I would like to see Lamour Fou tonight.

I picked-up NOROIT and DUELLE at amazon.fr but there are NO subtitles to these... why is such an important director's films so hard to find? Maybe he's just one of the good/rare directors who 'fell between the cracks' and the losers are the cineastes who love him...

His films have in the last year become much easier to find and they are now all available with the exceptions of L`AMOUR FOU,OUT ONE,MERRY GO ROUND and LE PONT DU NORD.The rest are all R2 and subbed with the exception of HAUT BAS FRAGILE and as you point out DUELLE and NOROIT but as those films are mostly visual,and the plots don`t mean much anyway,it doesn`t really matter.
it definitely matters!Those four exceptions are a Large chunk of his oeuvre! It would be priceless to have a high quality dvd version (with subtitles) of l'amour fou, out 1 noli me tangere,spectre,merry-go-round and Le pont du Nord! Any idea when this will happen? I know Ackerman's Jeanne Dielman has recently gone to dvd and the quality of that is Fantastic; i salivate for both Out 1's to be of that quality when/if it's put out!

Perhaps following on from "Duelle" and "Noroit" there may be a release of "L`amour fou" and "Le pont du nord" in the future. I agree that "Jeanne Dielman" looks wonderful and it was good to have an Akerman box set available,also two box sets from Straub/Huillet, so minimal filmmmakers are at last becoming available,at least in France.

shareIt was available last year from an eBay trader in Australia in an unsubbed DVD,probably taped off TV.Since then I haven`t seen it but it`s worth checking every month to see if he has any more copies.
shareJoan The Maid is also unavailable, at least in its complete form. Also, one can find subtitles for Duelle and Noroit easily enough. I just watched both films subbed on my computer last week.

Of course you can always get a copy with Italian subs from emule. I hear karagarga has the same print.
